[history]
Freeper Lingo Reference Thread Every once in a while I see Freeper lingo I don't understand and have to research to figure out the meaning/background.
Today, I thought it would be helpful for newbies (and 'seasoned' Freepers) to have a 'reference' for the lingo specifically related to FR (ie not stuff like LOL etc you can get everywhere else).
My intention is for this thread (and my profile page) to be that reference, in as much as it can be kept reasonably up to date.
I've just started to compile the terms today, so I'm sure there are massive gaps and omissions in the definitions/histories. Please fill them in!
Here's what I have right now:
IBTZ - In Before The Zot - term posted before the troll/disrupter gets booted
Zot - verb, to get kicked off FR in an undignified manner
Mod comment: See Coop's post #52 for correct definition of "Zot"
beeber (beeber like object) - see the thread that started it all: Would like freeper help (apologies to al baby)
stuned - misspelling of stunned - see beeber
hugh - misspelling of huge posted on a thread by an excited freeper.
series - misspelling of serious posted on a thread by an excited freeper.
BIOYAC - Texan freepism - Blow It Out Your A**, Cowboy
shower pictures - from an excited freeper saying they just got out of the shower on a breaking news thread about a possible terror event (it was determined the event was not terror related).
DUmmie (anything DU---) - Democratic Underground troll/disruptor
cowbell pictures - ??
ziggy - ??
spork weasel - ??

AYBABTU I thought about that too, but I think it's origins are available all over the 'net and is used by many more people than freepers. If you disagree, I would be willing to reconsider. Let me know your thoughts.

RE: Cowbells. Usually applied to a nonsensical post or a vanity post with insufficient information in it.
Not sure of the FR origin other than "anything sounds better with more cowbells", (a reference to a favorite percussion instrument used in rock music). Alex Van Halen is a big fan of cowbells.

This morning, between 5 and 6:30 PDT there was an article in FR about California "coastal" homeowners heading "west" into the Central Valley, due to outrageous housing costs.
The article was from either Reuters or the AP and seems to have disappeared.
Is it possible to get at least the title to follow up on it since I did not have time to post on it earlier?

lol, seriesly an admirable effort on your part, but there is a FR Dictionary (a.k.a. FR Lexicon) at that link. It's a fun read. I'm proud to say I was there at the start of some very famous threads, al baby's Stuned Beeber and the Nation of Dumbies thread for instance. I love FR!

Here's the history of Cowbell (more cowbell, actually). Not unique to FR, but frequently invoked. E.g. - "This thread needs more cowbell".
To: Cletus.D.Yokel
Not sure of the FR origin other than "anything sounds better with more cowbells", (a reference to a favorite percussion instrument used in rock music). Alex Van Halen is a big fan of cowbells. The cowbell reference is to a Saturday Night Live sketch starring Christopher Walken showing the addition of "more cowbell" to the original studio recording of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper".
Go here to watch the sketch on YouTube.

shower pictures - from an excited freeper saying they just got out of the shower on a breaking news thread about a possible terror event (it was determined the event was not terror related). I think the shower reference is to a thread where a woman was close to some breaking news (either physically or near someone important to her), nobody was sure what was going on, and while all the excitement was still happening and nothing resolved she announced she was going to go take a shower. Hence, the showers show up as something is about to happen.

SHOWERS was used first by me, I think, there was something happening, and I had to shower to go somewhere, and I posted for people to keep posting while I showered so when I got out and dried off I would see updates!
Someone actually looked it up and said I was the first to use it.
Caused me much embarrassment, but, now, it is kind of funny...
