Not to be a smarta$$, but nontheless. You hardly have to tell Floridians, especially S. Floridians how to deal with a hurricane.

Lecturing us is a bit ridiculous considering how many we get every year.

Hey, Joe, I live in West Port Saint Lucie myself, but I'm in Pa right now.

Hopefully, we will escape the worst of it this time.

I'm sure glad I live in the Pacific Northwet where the biggest thing we fear is the massive 9+ earthquake that could strike at any instant without warni

Not to mention the tsunami that might follow.....

ABC News is giving the same "big-as-Katrina" hype

Well, Katrina was a Cat 1 when it hit Florida, so that is on the surface accurate. And too many people didn't take a "mere" Cat 1 seriously, and 11 died as a result.

My PA28-151 is at KFPR. I'm a flight instructor.
Keep me posted. - With any luck it won't be too bad.

This is where my former business was before 05.

Well, Katrina was a Cat 1 when it hit Florida,

ernesto has a long and unlikely road to a cat 1 hurricane before florida...its barely a tropical storm at this point with no real consistent center of circulation. i would say a decrease to a tropical wave is every bit as likely as an increase to hurricane strength before a south florida hit/brush. that said...the carolinas seem more threatened with the potential of a significant storm should ernesto hold together and get offshore and head that way.

When was the last time a hurricane hit Waco, Texas? Love that parody on Rush.

Hurricane Andrew went on to hit Louisiana where the people there hollered louder than the ones in FL. I won't forget them wanting handouts back then.

here's my take on this. it's stupid.

since when is the approach -- nay, the possibility of an approach -- of a hurricane an emergency?

Does everyone appreciate just what happens to your cherished (and very much taken for granted) civil rights when the executive declares a state of emergency?

Think of the very term: state of emergency. You cease to live in the state of Florida (or wherever) -- you now live in the "state of Emergency." Have you read it's constitution? Did you elect its government, or vote on its laws? Do you know what your rights are in that state?

Do you really want to live in the State of Emergency?

Apparently, you do not live here.

The declaring of a SOE helps us quite a bit, in many ways, notwithstanding your paranoid blather.

This hurricane IS hitting Florida, and we are thankful for Jeb Bush.
