From your profile.

You'll find my posts to be shallow and full of off-colored humor. I try to stay away from the serious threads because it usually lands me in trouble

I guess you acknowledge your childish ways.

The only surprise is that someone got a picture. Our troops perform miracles every day and are more skilled than most can imagine. This pilot was just doing his job, as always, with perfection. Jack

Thank you for that link. And here's a connection, also from that site, from the Sikorsky pages:

Sikorsky 's second Skycrane was delivered first to the West German Minister of Defense in early 1963. The US Army bought 97 with deliveries between June, 1964 and 1972, and in Vietnam was used to retrieve 380 downed aircraft. The last one was retired in 1993 by the 113th Aviation of the Army National Guard based in Reno, Nevada in a time where was already replaced by the less powerful but more flexible Boeing Vertol CH-47 Chinook

Because it's so much fun to unload them!! At about 5000 ft.
This is a bad joke, our soldiers are too professional to even think about dropping prisoners.

But I'm not.
Jack

Add me to those who have seen this one several years ago as well - or at least something similar to it!

Nevertheless, I agree, our military rocks!

I've actually seen the Skycrane in action. Ft. Sill, probably '74, possibly '73. First they moved around "targets", old car bodies painted in various garish colors. Later during the firepower demonstration, they demo'd the air transport of artillery. A 4 pack of 105mm towed howitzers, all slung together. Pretty cool.

Anyone know how old it is?

This pic is from the beginning of the Afghanistan operations. I remember looking at this pic several years ago.

Neither are they. They are just too professional to do it... without orders that is. :)

I think these PA helo guys fly out of the mountains here in central PA. The pilot probably feels it's just another day on the job!
