(Caption written by Neptunus Lex):
This photo was taken by a soldier in Afghanistan of a helo rescue mission. The pilot is a PA Guard guy who flies EMS choppers in civilian life. Now how many people on the planet you reckon could set the (back) end of a chopper down on the roof top of a shack on a steep mountain cliff and hold it there while soldiers load wounded men in the rear???

while soldiers load wounded men in the rear??? I don't see any wounded. I saw this picture a couple of years ago. I believe the gentlemen being loaded on board are likely to currently be "guests" at Club GitMo. :)

Super picture!
We used to do something similar to that on rocking and rolling ships while underway.
We (USA) have the best Pilots in the World.

I seem to recall this from a long time ago, too.

Just think. If it wasn't for the poverty draft, that pilot would be just another unemployed loser from the inner city.

I believe the gentlemen being loaded on board are likely to currently be "guests" at Club GitMo Would they try such a risky maneuver to load Taliban prisoners? Why not find a safer place to load them?
To: Uncledave
screw the roof..... look at the trees in the foreground...that's what'll knock a heli down if it catches a blade...
Big Brass ones...that's what the feller should get as recognition for helping those wounded men....wow!

CH-47 Indeed, the external engine pods are the best giveaway. CH-46, Sea Knight, is somewhat smaller than the Chinook as well.

Now how many people on the planet you reckon could set the (back) end of a chopper down on the roof top of a shack on a steep mountain cliff and hold it there while soldiers load wounded men in the rear??? Just about every Army/Marine Chopper pilot.
While the picture is dramatic, the execution is routine.
Our guys and gals are trained well, ant that particular manoever is not that difficult.
