New poll says most Canadians blame U.S. for 9/11 attacks

A majority of Canadians believe U.S. foreign policy was one of the root causes that led to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and Quebecers are quicker to criticize the U.S. administration for its international actions than other Canadians, a recent poll suggests.

Those conclusions are found in a newly released poll conducted by Léger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies.

The poll suggests that 77 per cent of Quebecers polled primarily blame American foreign policy for the Sept. 11 attacks. The results suggest 57 per cent in Ontario hold a similar view.

Canadian opinions have hardened against the United States and its role on the world stage, said Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Association for Canadian Studies. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have contributed to a change of heart among people, he said.

I'd like to have seen the actual poll questions, but let's take it at face value.
The percentage Canadians who say American foreign policy played a role in Sept 11th (and a case could be made for that by both sides of the political spectrum), is about the same percentage as Americans who accuse Canada for having played a role in Sept 11th by virtue of "some of the 9/11 terrorists came from or through Canada" - which we all know is horseshit.
The only diff is that Canadians (at least those here) criticize only those Americans who think that about Canada, while it seems that Americans (at least those here) want to blame ALL Canadians for how some Canadians feel..

fanfan,
What you said to RightWhale was "Yes, we were. I believe we lost 24 Canadians in the towers." in response to RW asking "Was Canada attacked on 9/11?". Which means you WERE saying that canada was attacked on 9/11 when it most CERTAINLY WAS NOT. And for you to say so was ridiculous if not insulting. Yes, there were victims that were canadian but canada was NOT ATTACKED.

BTW, I know that the words "canada/canadians" just like the words "france, germany, belgium & so on" usually have the 1st letter capitalized, however, I purposely made the decision not to do so, as where, I do capitalize the words for the United States of America, Poland, Italy & so on b/c I respect those countries ON THE WHOLE. Get it?

Fair Go,
Yes, those 2 individuals, IMHO, are traitors, liars & moronic SOB's...which I say makes them worse than those canadians in this poll who JUST have dumb opinions on the matter, as where, these 2 have, IMHO, traitorous opinions ON TOP of being WRONG on their alleged "facts" of the matter. But the fact that these 2 exist w/ their opinions does NOT, IMHO, absolve the canadians of this poll @ all. It's like the kids saying "But, but, but the OTHER kids said/did the same thing." to which the proper response = SO WHAT it doesn't change the fact that the kids said/did something wrong.

Frankly, I believe that western civilization was attacked on 9/11.

Sorry if that troubles you.

It is the lunacy pf multiculturalism. They cannot admit that Islamism arises from the doctrines of the prophets, that it--ironically-- despises multiculturalism as one of the worst errors of the West and something from which they wish to protect their community.

There are few nations that do not have a lunar left. Why alienate the members of such nations who are your friends
just to get at their lunar left? Anyone who blamed the US for 9/11 whether they are US , British, Canadian, Australian or citizens of any other nation, are indirectly supporting terrorism and Osama Bin Laden. They are contemptible. By attacking those who stand opposed to such ilk, you are helping Osama Bin Laden. Canada has a government that is friendly towards the US and that is making sacrifices in Afghanistan. Commonsense dictates that you should want that government to remain in office and that you do nothing to denigrate it or its supporters.

That was certainly the intention of the perpetrators. They did not confine their attacks to the US. Bali followed a year later and was directed at Europeans visiting Bali. Here the victims came from several nations including Britain and Australia.

Fan Fan, I agree that ON THE WHOLE "western civilization" is Currently being attacked by terrorist muzzie extremists, HOWEVER, as far as 9-11 it is still my opinion that to say that "WC" was "attacked" on 9-11 is insulting & INCORRECT.

Fair Go, I'll say it ONE LAST TIME SO PAY ATTN:
(From post 130 posted on 09/07/2006 3:37:35 PM PDT of this thread.)
Now "on the whole" right now I don't like canada, however, I reserve the right to make individual decisions per canadian citizen.

As far as I'm concerned, it's CANADIANS on the whole that have alienated themselves from the USA (as reflected poll after poll) not the other way around. Right now & for a while now too, poll after poll I see shows that the MAJORITY of canadians blame us for 9-11 OVER the terrorists & UNTIL I see a FEW polls saying otherwise I will MAINTAIN my dislike of canada but will STILL reserve the right I did above.

Correct me if I have this wrong.

You disagree with my view that western civilization was attacked on 9/11.

Therefore you are insulted? That way of thinking seems a little Islamic to me.
You're kidding, right?

Pray tell, are you a 'victim'?

I'm insulted on behalf of my country b/c when it was asked if canada was attacked on 9-11 you said yes & continue to argue that canada was attacked on 9-11 when it MOST CERTAINLY WAS NOT. Individual canadian citizens died during the attacks UPON THE USA, yes, but CANADA was NOT attacked/the target.

Insult me all you want by INCORRECTLY calling my opinions islamic for it is only yourself you make a fool of w/ that statement. As a result of your insult of me by way of your islamic reference to my opinions you can (fill in the blank w/ appropriate degrading act for you to perform) for I will no longer discuss this w/ you. I WAS silly thinking I could have this discussion w/ the particular kind of canadian that you are. Also, IMHO, you reflect badly upon those canadians that I have placed on my exception/good/acceptable/decent list.

A majority of Canadians believe U.S. foreign policy was one of the root causes that led to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks..

In other words they agree with the terrorists.

Of course they are deceived, because regardless of the President in office, regardless of foreign policies, Muslim fanatics have always been at war with the U.S.

Jimmy Carter pulled support out from under the Sha and virtually handed Iran over to the Muslims and the first thing they did was march in the streets chanting "Death to America".

I am sorry that my comments about my perception of being attacked on 9/11 insults you.

For the record....The country named Canada was not directly attacked by insane religious zealots hiding behind a facade of peace bent on destroying mankind, on September 11, 2001.

those canadians that I have placed on my exception/good/acceptable/decent list.

OK. LOL! I'm crushed.
I'm sure I'll recover.
Good luck buddy.

The lunar left in Canada does not like any country with a conservative government and that includes Australia. However, there are many conservatives in Canada and they are decent folk. In fact I find the lunar left in Canada indistinguishable from the lunar left in the USA. From what I have seen and read, the Canadian lunar left has been highly influenced by the likes of Michael Moore and Ward Churchill and this notorious two are both US products. The lunar left operate in all countries and wherever they are they bring comfort to terrorists. How about keeping attacks to the lunar left whether they are Aussies, Poms, Yankees, Canucks, Iranians, Kiwis etc etc and avoid alienating friends.

Somehow it's not surprising that a newbie with not yet 3 weeks on FreeRepublic would be so easily insulted when they're also anally retentive enough to admit to already keeping a de facto 'naughty & nice' list of other FReepers.

While it's yet to be determined if you're being xenophopbic or just unduly obtuse with Fanfan, surely the Islamofascists chose the WORLD Trade Center as their primary target to make precisely the point underlined & responded to within the text of President Bush's 2006 9/11 address:

"Nineteen men attacked us with a barbarity unequaled in our history. They murdered people of all colors, creeds, and nationalities — and made war upon the entire free world. Since that day, America and her allies have taken the offensive in a war unlike any we have fought before."

Pretty easy to find ... quotes dismissing America's friends & allies in the war on Islamofascist terror and/or minimizing their loses are considerably rarer.

... at least from conservative and even 'mainline' sources.

GMMAC,
You need to re-read what I typed. I NEVER said nor referred to a " 'naughty & nice' list of other FReepers."

What I was referring to was my statement that I apparently & unfortunately have to REPEAT YET AGAIN. I said the last time that would be the last (@ least I meant that for as for as THIS thread went but I wasn't clear on that so now I've clarified it) but I guess since I said that to Fair Go & not you & since you've found a NEW way to twist what I've said then I will repeat myself.

I've said/referenced the following MORE THAN ONCE:
" Now "on the whole" right now I don't like canada, however, I reserve the right to make individual decisions per canadian citizen. "
and another way...
" It's like "on the whole" I don't like france, russia, germany, belgium etc but I reserve the right to like INDIVIDUALS from said countries regardless of if I like the country as a whole. "

As for my use of the word "list" (which NEVER referred to FReepers), I was using that word figuratively since I don't have an actual written down "list".

As far as the word "World" is concerned you are really stretching that one. Let's see, the World Series in the USA for baseball isn't much of WORLD series since all of the teams eligible are from the USA except for one (formerly two) from canada but the World Series isn't representative of the world as a whole. However, the Little League World Series IS representative of various teams from multiple countries from around the world. Examp #2, the Super Bowl winners for USA football are often referred to as "World Champs" but guess what...only USA teams are eligible to try & even get to the SB.

I as referenced in my previous post: I do agree ON THE WHOLE that islami terroristic murderers are waging a global war on those they consider "infidels" (western civilization) but the actual attacks on 9-11 were UPON the USA.

GWB on the whole isn't exactly my favorite person (I disagree w/ him more often than agree w/ him) nor the person I trust/believe the most. So trying to use quotes from him won't help your cause of trying to say that canada was "attacked" in my book.

Furthermore, trust me when I say I'm FAR, FAR, FAR from being "phobic" of canadians for I CERTAINLY DON'T FEAR canadians. Again, do not mistake DISLIKE for FEAR. Too much frenchie blood around up there for me to have any fear.

Fair Go, Then I suggest that you help get your fellow canadians not from the "lunar left" to speak up more often in the polls b/c like I've said multiple times...the majority of canadians in poll after poll after poll after poll etc appear to be from your "lunar left". I don't know how much your "lunar left" is influenced by MM & WC & how much of it is fellow "loonies" being attracted to fellow "loonies". Folks in general, tend to gravitate toward those w/ similar views ... IOW, it is most likely, IMHO, that the canadian "lunar left" are NOT CHANGING their opinions to match those 2 idiots but just agree w/ their idiocy.

Finally, this thread is NOT about a poll(s) of "Aussies, Poms, Yankees, Canucks, Iranians, Kiwis etc etc" it is about a CANADIAN poll.

"GWB on the whole isn't exactly my favorite person (I disagree w/ him more often than agree w/ him) nor the person I trust/believe the most."

Knew I was detecting a bit more than a mere whiff of 'eau de troll'.

Although, given the moral relativist nonsense spewed out on your newly created FR home page, I'm not particularly surprised.
