Lauer/Bush on Today show: Pretty tense
Today show

Posted on 09/11/2006 9:07:21 AM PDT by quesney

Did anyone else see the exchange between President Bush and the Today show's Matt Lauer this morning on the Today show?

I tuned in near the end, and it looked pretty intense. Lauer was a very aggressive in his hand gestures, repeatedly pointing a stern finger into the president's chest. Almost looked like it would turn physical. Would appreciate a link to any online video.

I only caught the very last part and it looked to me that the Prez was ready to jump down Lauer's throat and pull his gizzard out. They were standing about 12 inches apart.

Was Lauer waving his man purse at him?

I thought this interview was freakin' GREAT. Dubya was hot at Lauer and it bubbled through. It's about damn time he answered stupid liberal objections clearly and sensibly and assertively.

There's a good reason for that. The most SOLID base of the democratic party--is the high school dropout. That is a fact.

High school dropouts vote democratic by a huge margin--especially the inner-city uneducated (a solid base of support for democrats). Inner-city high school dropouts are SOLID part of the democratic 'base'.

Why does W keep giving them interviews?

Because he wanted to get his message out and Fox News is only watched by a small minority of people, couple million out of 300 million.

In the part I saw Lauer kept repeating "water-boarding" like some demented, balding parrot . . .
It was offensive and disrespectful, not only to President Bush, but to the executive branch as well as those of us who voted for him.

Barbara Bush could kick Lauer's ass! And I mean the mother of W not the daughter (although the daughter could too!)

My husband and I listened to Lauer promo the piece by saying it was a "heated debate". So, we kept watching to see it. When it was over, we just looked at each other and rolled our eyes. Heated debate, my arse. IOHO, Lauer was spanked like the little brat he is. I thought the president did just fine.

It's a mystery to me why President Bush would even consider going on any of the alphabet networks.

Because he wants to get his message out and contrary to what you may think Fox News and the alternative media only represent a small part of the media. only couple million people watch Fox news for example. They may account for the bulk of activists but then how many of them are you going to convert one way or the other?

Thanks for the link.

I think the President came off magnificently. I have no problems with Lauer's treatment of the President, now that I have seen it. In fact, it makes it plain, even to the casual viewer, that Lauer is an enemy of the President. It is better that people know this than to have Lauer be all smiles while he knifes the President in the back.

Frankly, I think these toe-to-toe discussions is where the President does best. Lauer is reading from his prepared script, and President Bush is operating off-the-cuff, and still the President looks better prepared and in command of his material.

Anybody who still thinks President Bush is a dummy should watch this tape and see how he handles himself. I'm impressed as can be.

I agree. And this was AFTER Lauer's biggest concern was he and his family's worry (lack of sleep) about terror while living in NY!!

The President should have responded by saying, "Matt, didn't I just describe what I am doing to make you and your loved ones SLEEP BETTER"?

He is a fool to expose himself to these one-agenda socialist liberals who just hate Bush, hate America, hate everything, except when they look in the mirror...elitest bastards.

Perhaps - perhaps not. In doing so he is exposing them to all of America. And while many people who watch morning television are almost beyond hope in their inability to think rationally about the present state of the world, they still might have a visceral reaction to seeing the President (love him or hate him) treated in such a manner.

if only we could ditch civility for 30 seconds today.

The left ditched civility 30 years ago, and never took it back up.
