Elvis is so far beyond those two :-)
Every thing is political to them. It's their life. But you know what, EVERY time ANY President speaks it's political. And the citizenry wants the President to speak on a day like today. And if the President uses his time and his words wisely to make a solid point, chances are the citizens respond positively. Let the Rats start making some sense and seeming to support the country rather than trying to make cheap political points. Funny thing, Bush referred only to two former Democratic Presidents, FDR and Truman. If today's Dems were like that they wouldn't have to worry about being elected.
Thanks -- I don't deserve it, but I need all the blessing I can get.
:)
Thank you for a very cogent remark. Some folks just don't get it; this addrss was to them, as much as it was to us. This President will dont retreat; but there are those who think he will, and we need them to be encouraged. He made promises tonight, not just to us, but to the moderates in the middle east who question the commitment of america. And can we blame them, with our media promoting the democrats retreat and defeat strategy, with democrats on the house and senate floor calling this president ignorant, a liar, and stupid....
This was an excellent speech, hit all the high points, addressed all those that needed to be addressed. The dems will poopoo it, but that is to be expected, but it will encourage the base, and we will get out and vote in November and keep majorities in both houses, so that the war will be won by us, and not the enemy.
That's the truth Howlin!
For cryin' out loud. Many of us on this thread have explained the lack of wisdom, and merit, in President Bush hypothetically making statements condemning all Muslims.
Who said he was concerned about CAIR, except you? No one. No one on this thread. It is not about CAIR or what they think and say. It is about winning the WOT using all tools and means necessary, including working with Muslim nations and people who would like to see democracies exist and prosper. Honestly, why is that hard to understand?
I think you are missing the point that it already has changed. You could say catholicism can't change, but it has. You could say that protestantism can't change, but it has. The word of God never changes, but our understanding of it does.
The Muslim religion is a false religion, but being of man it is subject to the folly of man -- and one folly of man is to adapt things to his own greed and selfishness.
True Islam is way too hard for the soft underbellies of the modern enlightened man, and so it has changed in cultures where there is freedom and money and materialism.
Many american muslims abhor what they see being done to what they call their "religion". The true believer muslims hate what we have done to their religion -- it's one of the things that drives them to want to destroy us.
So while a true muslim as defined by the original intent of the Koran is an enemy of both the True God and mankind, there are large bodies of "muslims" who are no more adherents to their faith than are half the people in this country who call themselves Christians.
What? First of all, I'm not a Democrat--check out my posting hstory. Second, I've always tried to be civil. Hey, I learned from the best: a North Carolina grandmother, the grandmother of my first boyfriend. :)
Sorry if I offended you. I certainly didn't mean to. :)
He is simply doing what any President should do- tell the country what the story is and how we should go about fixing the problem. He is preparing the country for a long fight- way past his administration! He did the same right after 9/11 but nobody seems to remember that.
It's not political. It is the President doing his job. It just so happens that the election is 2 months away- and only a mid term at that- not the Super Bowl- a Presidential election. Lighten up MSM. He might just help save your sorry butts as you in NYC and Washington are in the line of fire.
Wow, this was a really good speech.
holy cow.
I just got to see it now...the prayer line and one about breaking down the wall.
Just magnificent.
Thank you. :)
I have to believe, and I do, because it's true, that in the end, cooler heads will prevail.
Because they must, and they will. And that's about it. I have 100% faith.
It was political in a sense because it dealt with Geopolitics, and a future political vision, but it was not partisan political.
and if someone had tried to stop them, the story would be about how the Bush administration was spying on journalists.
I saw it the same way!
But I will say, when he is around victim's families and he pulls them to his chest, embraces them and comforts them, I can't make more than two seconds before I'm crying.
What a yawner of a speech. Where was Gerson on this one? Terrible.
What was terrible about this speech?
VERY impressed with his address. It was really great. I think it's one of the best strongest most impassioned speeches Bush has ever given. The message was so important. Very well done and the content was so important.
This was every bit as good as any Gerson speech, IMO
My computer's in the basement (I have to get a TV down here), so I couldn't participate until now, but I thought it was a fine speech and the president delivered it well. Mort Kondracke said afterward it was "on the cusp of Churchillian". High praise from a Democrat!
