"complacent, appeasement-minded Westerners."

Which term includes the New York Times.

No it doesn't. The NYT is rooting for the other side.

What will the response be from those liberal Democratic American Catholics who automatically pull the Democratic lever in the voting booth? I'm thinking also of my fellow Pittsburgh PA residents.

Haven't seen that one before. It fits.

My understanding is that the Pope was quoting from an historical source. So does all this muzzie rage mean that one can't even discuss history? How do they study history in their universities? How do they discuss other political systems? No wonder nothing of value comes from the muslim world when people have fatwas issued against them for engaging in intellectual debate.

Have Senators John F. Kerry and Edward Kennedy commented on this 'controversy'?

Everyone keep in mind that there are many forces here at work, tremendous forces we don't see, celestial forces, drawing the battle lines as we speak. There is the side of Jesus and Good and Truth Light, and on the other side diametrically opposed is that of Satan and Evil and Lies and Darkness. The former shall prevail. The Pope shall prevail. The post-Englightment West shall prevail. The Cross shall prevail (over the feudal Crescent and Star).

The Holy Spirit, whether one is a Catholic or Protestant or whatever, at this time resides over and protects the Pope. The Holy Spirit will give tremendous insight and courage and tactical wisdom to the Pope. His dectractors are the children of dark and evil. They will have no such Holy Spirit over them, providing them courage, solace and protection, not to mention superior, divinely inspired vision.

In this sense, those of Islam and Worldwide Violence can 'bring it on'. However, it is inevitable they at they shall be humbled, defeated and knocked to their knees, just as when Communism made a foolish decision to take on another Pope in our modern time.

Nor am I a Catholic.

But I do respect the Pope, his words, and his wisdom.

I join others in prayer for his safety.

I agree with Michelle Malkin. "They" are the Religion of the Perpetually Offended.

If you tell me I'm violent, I'll kill you (but I am not violent).

An Iraqi armed group? Didn't the Democrats say that there are no terrorists in Iraq, they are all in Afghanistan and not Iraq!

"amid growing Muslim anger over his remarks about Islam"

corection, they should report "amid growing Muslim anger due to misinterpretation and ignorance over his remarks about Islam."

I hope that's not so. But if it is, the few civilized countries in the world (U.S., Britain, Australia, Italy...) should at this moment be planning their joint military offensive to prevent such an attack.

They could do it too, they have military training as fierce as any, but there are only 500 of them!

You're right, they have tried and failed, sort of like the 1993 version of 9/11 Twin Towers. If at first they don't succeed, nothing stops them.

Maybe this is the actual third Fatima prophecy? Supposedly it was the death attempt on JP2, but that was not nearly the cataclysmic disaster that would result if the Pope had actually been killed.

Not a peep yet from American bishops. Their P.R. folks don't get in until 9:00 Monday. This is much too touchy an issue to expect any individual comments. Maybe if directly confronted by the press, someone of the high stature of Wuerl or George would respond with something politically neutral and supportive of the Pope. But I'd wail until mid-week for a USCCB statement of any sort. They are waiting to see if it dies down and they can ignore it, or if it intensifies and they must respond. Or it may be the place of the Nuncio as this is political.
