SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California filed suit against Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - News), General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News), Toyota Motor Corp. (Tokyo:7203.T - News) and three other carmakers on Wednesday, charging that greenhouse gases from their vehicles have cost the state millions of dollars.

Automakers including GM, Honda, and Toyota said they are developing so-called fuel-cell cars in response to consumer demand for better fuel economy amid higher gas prices. Fuel cells produce only water vapor as a byproduct.
And by far the primary green house gas is .... water vapor!
bump
I'm not nearly as pessimistic as you are about this. C'mon, the state of California established emissions standards that automobiles had to meet in order to be sold in the state. Are they now going to turn around and say that doesn't matter? Are they going to prove that there was a better technology the manufacturers could have used that wouldn't cause any pollution, and that they intentionally caused global warming? Of course not! This lawsuit is just a political stunt by the AG to get his name in the papers. It will either be thrown out (I'll give that a 90% chance), quietly withdrawn or easily won by the defendants.
I welcome the confrontation. Like you say, the case is weak...it's so weak that even activist judges couldn't possibly help it. It would be a blast to see the AG get his butt kicked in court and displayed as a fool for all the world to see!
Considering what our RINO governor has signed off on, he is in no position to complain that Lockjaw is following his ill advised lead. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, the Austrian shares the blame.
Doesn't bother me a bit.
i am from california what a bunch of dumb people we have in Sac. they make me ill
And keep the rest of them from migrating to California, which was a great state before it became so attractive to the disfunctionaries from the other states.
---Easy solution. Don't sell cars in California...---
Easier solution, stop selling your larger and more fuel hungry cars in California. Only sell the smaller, more economical models. Drivers there will go nuts and lynch the entire state government. End of problem.
Before that happens, it'll hopefully go through higher and higher courts until the ambulance chasers no longer have such a sympathetic audience, but I hope that a higher court could grab jurisdiction away from a lower one and bring this to an abrupt halt (dream on). Very opportunistic for California bureaucrats to threaten these car manufacturers that are already in trouble.
