Vanity ^ | 9-20-06 | Vanity

Tell Hugo Chavez to drink his effin' oil.

Don't do any kind of business with CITGO petroleum.

In the tiny little town in Western NY State where my parents live, the Citgo dealer closed his pumps because of this. Instead of having an unholy relationship with the corporation, he's gas losing money to the Sunoco across the street by only offering repair services. (I LOVE the attitude of Americans in the heartland!)

Call me clueless, I have not heard about the sell off. I wonder who is buying it?

Saudi oil isn't the only alternative to buying fat ass Chavez's oil. BP or Arco is largely from British or Alaskan oil fields. Shell comes from African and North Sea sources.

I saw a WSJ article dated Aug 15th talking about Chavez selling off his minority interest in the TX refinery, but the link you gave me appears to say CITGO is sold by independent local franchisees, which would mean none of them were CITGO-owned to begin with.

But I could be confused by all that.

That's a true patriot. Makes me almost want to drive my car out to New York from California the next time it needs servicing...or towing it there for repairs if it breaks down.

Won't do any good. Oil is a fungible commodity. What you don't buy someone else will.

I've only bought Valero gas twice, but both times I got poor performance and terrible mileage.

Is it indeed true that CITGO is wholly owned by the Venezuelan government?

I boycott all Arab-owned gas stations here in New Orleans, but it is hard to always keep the boycott as practically all gas stations have become owned by Arabs in just the last couple of years.

I've asked, and they've always confirmed that they're Muslims, so it's not that these are Christians from the Mid-East. If Muslim-Americans denounced the violence of their co-religionists and put America before their blood-thirsty religion, I wouldn't drive out of my way to pay for more expensive gas, but that's the way it is.

I have a lot of friends in Venezuela. I was planning on visiting them but as long as Chavez is President I will NOT be going. He uses the "America will attack soon" scare tactic to try to get the people rallying around him.

Because of this, I never comment about Chavez to my friends. Anyways, they dislike the man. I think it's best I do, however, send them my homepage which I link to Radio Marti. They LOVE it!

It was a partial sell-off - I wasn't sure if all or some had been sold, looks like some:

Citgo to Stop Selling Gas to U.S. Stations (Venezuela owned)

Venezuela-owned Citgo Petroleum Corp. has decided to stop distributing gasoline to some 1,800 U.S. stations, shedding a lackluster segment of its business while forcing the owners of those stations to find other suppliers.

-snip

The states where Citgo will stop selling gasoline are: Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota. A limited number of stations in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas and Iowa will also be affected.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Lyondell Chemical Co. said late Wednesday it bought out Citgo Petroleum Corp.'s stake in the Lyondell-Citgo refinery, a giant 268,000 barrel-per-day facility on the Houston Ship Channel, for $2.1 billion.

Thanks....

I don't buy SH*TGO here in Indiana, and boycotting BP also because they price-fixed propane which is my home heating source.
Thumbs up to Marathon: American made, American owned (also sold under the Speedway brand)

"...he's gas losing money..." = he's losing gas money. (May be dyslexia setting in.)
