Meet the Next President: George Allen stays the course
The Examiner ^ | Sept 19 | Bill Sammon

HARDY, Va. - If Republicans decide to replicate the style and substance of President Bush when nominating a potential successor in 2008, they will likely choose another conservative named George.

George Allen, that is, the junior senator from Virginia, who agrees with Bush on most major issues. On their few points of disagreement, such as immigration and campaign finance, Allen sides with the more conservative Republicans who will dominate primary election voting.

“I like him very much — I consider him a friend,” Allen says of Bush in an interview with The Examiner. “And I know a lot of people like to criticize him. We even have Republicans distancing themselves from him because his approval ratings are in the 30s.”

P.S. Ref. your "out of our drug cabinets" remark, are you suggesting that Reagan would support legalzation of narcotics? If so, then you don't know the first thing about Reagan.

Outstanding perhaps, I've he could just make his mind up! First, he was against extending federal hate crime laws to gays, then, after the election, he voted for them, then, after that, he changed his mind again!

Meet the Next President: George Allen

YES, But first things first --- he's got to beat Jim Webb in November. If he does not, or even just barely squeaks by, It does not bode well for his POTUS chances at all.

I predict that George Allen, Newt, and Patoki won't be presidential candidates.

I agree with you 100%- this smear campaign against Allen has got the Clinton dirty fingerprints all over it. It is MUCH more than about Allen's senate seat, and everybody needs to wake up and smell the coffee on this one.

Eh, what? I complain that George Allen is a lousy conservative candidate and you criticize the fact I was born in New Jersey? Like, when I was 10, I had a big influence on who was governor?

I am uncommitted at this point on 2008, as I have several favorites.

However I have to say this:

I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A COMMITTED LIBERAL EFFORT TO DESTROY A CONSERVATIVE U.S. SENATOR (ALLEN) BUT WHAT IS MOST STOMACH TURNING IS THAT SOME CONSERVATIVES ARE ACTUALLY JOINING IN ON IT BY BASHING ALLEN OR BELIEVING THE SPIN BY THE LIBERAL MEDIA.

It is absolutely reprehensible that Conservatives and Republicans are not closing ranks 100% unequivocably behind Allen, even on FR. Even some of them are showing up on this thread here. Will more show up after my post here??

Sheesh, the liberals' work (lies, smears, mudslinging, race-baiting, character assassination) has been done; they must be chuckling as they see even 'conservatives', this late in the General election, take some kind of issue with Allen and in doing so, help in some small way to deliver this senate seat to Webb (D-Liberal).

I'm saying the War on Drugs has been an abysmal failure on the part of both Dims and Repubs.

It's more like a smear orchestrated by Donald Graham, the guy who owns the Post. He is known to have a problem with Christians who have Jewish forebears.

Really? I never heard that before, how strange. Well then, I'm sure he's got his hands full, as I'm sure there are many in this world. Graham sounds like a bigot, lol.

How's that, since he is one himself?

The government can only do so much. The American people must choose not to use illegal drugs. However, that doesn't mean the government should sit back and watch as a flood of illegal drugs washes over our borders. What would you propose?
