I have NEVER said that! Never. You really shouldn't lie. Prove it or DIE.

No, but Studds got the page drunk and had sex with him. (Cape Codders -- vodka and cranberry juice, IIRC.)

About 10% of those cases involved children.

Not a rant. Just one of the best damn posts I've ever seen on FR, and why I keep coming back.

The heartening aspect of this disgusting story is that this homosexual acting out like this is STILL considered disgusting and beyond the pale and won't be tolerated.

I need to make a correction, Clarice Feldman is a she. I was thinking of someone else.

Sorry for the confusion.

Now I really need to run. Back later.

"Congressman Reynolds' inaction in the face of such a serious situation is very troubling, and raises important questions about whether there was an attempt to cover up criminal activity involving a minor to keep it from coming to light before election day," said Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Karen Finney.

Karen Finney worked in the Clinton White House and on Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign.

The first openly gay member of Congress, former U.S. Rep. Gerry Studds, quietly married his long-time partner one week after same-sex marriages became legal.

Studds and Dean Hara, who have been together since 1991, applied for a marriage license on May 18 and were married in Boston on May 24.

The Rev. Thomas Green, a minister in the United Church of Christ, officiated at the ceremony in his apartment on Beacon Hill., across from the Boston Common.

Although Studds wears a wedding ring, until now the marriage has not been reported. He is the most prominent of the 12,284 gays and lesbians who have married in Massachusetts in the past year.

The couple lives in a $1.4 million condo in Boston's South End, where their neighbors include TV newscaster Natalie Jacobson, sports talk show host Eddie Andelman and former U.S. Attorney Wayne Budd.

Studds publicly acknowledged he was gay in 1983 after being censured by the House for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male congressional page.

A year later, he was re-elected with 56 percent of the vote. He went on to became one of the most vocal gay-rights advocates on Capitol Hill. He sponsored legislation to prevent employment discrimination based on sexual preference, urged the Clinton administration to lift the ban on gays in the military and led funding fights for AIDS research, prevention, housing and treatment.

Studds irked some conservatives in Congress by giving Hara a spousal pin that allowed him access to congressional facilities.

In 1996, not long before he retired from Congress, he gave an impassioned speech on the House floor opposing the Defense of Marriage Act, which barred the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage and gave states the same authority.

Studds and Hara were among 29 couples profiled in the 1997 book ‘‘Men Together: Portraits of Love, Commitment, and Life,'' by Anderson Jones.

Studds turned 68 Thursday. Hara, a financial adviser who specializes in working with gays and lesbians, will turn 48 this month. He worked in the Department of the Interior in Washington before moving to Boston with Studds in 1996.

It is very clear now that the Republican leadership has ONLY EMAILS which were non sexual.

Only in the last two days were the INSTANT MESSAGES revealed.

Instant Messages are NOT NOT NOT NOT email.

Reporters are being intentionally ignorant by not distingushing the two. This is more unethical conduct of the media.

Did ABC delay the story because foley is a homosexual?
Did ABC delay the story because they could use this as an election ploy?

WHERE IS FOLEY?
Why is the MSM allowing him to hide?

Please read up on the entire episode. There was much more to this than asking a kid to send a photo. The IMs exchanged were clearly graphic in nature and even sexually solicitous---one kid replied something like, "wait a minute, I'm not even 18 yet," so he clearly regarded the message as a solicitation.

Good point.

In fact, I explain this to my kids all the time, saying "don't worry about what your brother is doing; worry about your own conduct and doing what you know is right"---when a correction to one is immediately met with a "but he did x, y, z!"

I agree with you. EVen around here there were people initially saying "what's the big deal about asking a kid for a photo or asking what he wanted for his birthday? Why is this being trumped up?"

That was all the info the leadership had at the beginning, too.
