Nobody's blaming the kid - whether he was 16 or 18. But if he was 18, then there's no "underage" factor to Foley's conduct and it's just dirty talk between two guys (I don't know if the kid's gay or not, and don't care), not an adult and a minor.

If you think fellow FReepers such as myself have anything but disgust for Foley, you're mistaken. He's getting what he deserves. What I and others are doing is busting the Dims and MSM for another canned political hit job, directed at the election of Republicans in general. You do see how this is being used, don't you?

I was as confused as you, but then I went back and plowed through the whole thread.
People (internet sleuths) have cleverly found out the ID of Foley's boyfriend. From there they researched, learned his DOB, looked at the dates on the IM's from ABC, and learned he was 18, not younger as originally reported.
So it was a "Sex Chat" between consenting adults.
Still sleazy and filthy, but apparently totally legal.

Are you sure that this IM was exchanged with Jordan? There was more than one page contacted by Foley, wasn't there?
I don't see how they could have done all this investigating, but missed what the IM itself said.

A network source explains exchanges with the young man and disgraced former Congressman Foley took place before and after the 18th birthday. Instead of "18th", shouldn't it be "18th" with the superscript? We need to get Dan Rather in here to tell us which one of these is right.

Exactly. An IM friendship isn't a crime. The sexual aspect didn't start until after he was 18. That also makes it no crime. Weird and creepy? Yes. Crime? No.
Apparently another bombshell is about to burst regarding how long the Dems held on to this info. This might not turn into the scandal they had hoped for. :)
