Fox NYC reports two construction worker saw plane trying to avoid hitting the building and make it to the river (it was flying west to east). My latest opinion: tragic accident.

AOPA has what, 400,000 members? big deal. Is there a more real terror threat from a bad guy renting an apartment and turning on the gas w/o pilot? yes. How about renting a Ryder truck and blowing it up? i think that one has been done before. Are these blowhards genuinely interested in "protecting the public" 1st and foremost? not a chance. They're all creeps, as are the tv news critters.
