UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The U.N. Security Council voted on Saturday to impose financial and arms sanctions on North Korea to punish the reclusive Communist nation for its nuclear weapon test.

The vote was 15-0.

The U.S.-drafted resolution allows nations to stop cargo going to and from North Korea to check for weapons of mass destruction or related supplies. But the measure specifically excludes military force.

It requires all countries to prevent the sale or transfer of materials related to Pyongyang's unconventional weapons programs. And the resolution demands nations freezes funds overseas of people or businesses connected with North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

" North Korea clearly stated they would regard this as a "declaration of war".

North Korea is going to take on the whole world? Interesting. They have become proficient at eating bugs for dinner, so I guess finding food as legions of North Koreans march across china, Russia and into Europe. All they need to carry is a bottle of Crisco and a frying pan. They might even be helpful by eating up all the rats in their path.

After seeing Bolton's talk, I can anticipate the lib's in Congress to do everything in their power to prevent him from becoming permanent in his position as U.N. Ambassador.

After all, he was fabulous and very pragmatic toward the issues with the PRNK.

He is the best Ambassador we have had since Jean Kirkpatrick!

How soon until the sleeper cells in Japan are activated?

Anyway, this is a rather weak bunch of sanctions. Unfortunately, it seems like it's the best we could do with Russia and China being such pains in the rear.

Name one thing that the U.N. has done and BACKED during the past x number of years. Nothing. This will be no different.

I don't think so, the wording gives the US the diplomatic cover to order North Korean and Iranian ships to "pull over to the side of the road and open the trunk". I suspect we will now do so.

I fully expect some North Koreans on ships to resist.

Only if the UN bothers to enforce it.

The RATS' likely response: This resolution is another Bush Administration failure. Bush should negotiate directly with NK.

It blocks him from being able to import or export any military equipment bigger than a rifle.

So it's not just about luxury items. Glad to hear it.

You hit the nail on the head, forget about the banning of cognac and kim's beloved movies etc....this factor is where it will get interesting, and this is where a military flare up could very easily begin.

It states that nations should inspect North Koreans imports "as necessary". I suspect that the US Navy will find a lot of "necessary". The resolution has no teeth, but it authorizes those who do have teeth to take measures on their own. If I am reading it right.

OK, nothing.

So, let me guess YOUR solution is to get out of the UN?

Now we will wait to see how the Rats and their MSM lapdogs spin this good news to be something bad they can blame on Bush.

They're not stupid enough to try and invade China, Russia, or Europe. They'll fight any war in their own neighborhood.

North Korea can do plenty of damage to Japan and South Korea before they're stopped by us or other world powers. They've got terrorist sleeper cells in Japan and hundreds of thousands of South Korean civilians (as well as some US troops) would likely die if they decided to invade.
