A Return to Triangulation (libertarion vs social right)
National Review Online ^ | 10/25/06 | David Boaz & David Kirby

As the Republican base fragments and Christian conservatives consider a “fast” from politics, the polling data point to a mid-term Republican thumping. Less than two weeks from now, Republicans will begin their post-mortem soul searching. And as the corpses of their House and Senate majorities grow cold, so should Karl Rove’s 2006 campaign strategy.

Well, dear, YOU certainly aren't "important" at all.

Opinions will vary ;)

OTOH, fatima never did claim that SHE was; but she is quite IMPORTANT to her FRiends here.

I am glad - she's lucky to have good friends. As are you. As am I.

Shallow people rarely care about or think about anyone but themselves.

I would tend to disagree. My opinions obviously are not sufficient to affect yours; similarly, yours are not sufficient to affect me. It happens.

"You just drew an equivalence between the terrorists on the Achille Lauro and some people who have been banned from FR, implying they would have engaged in murder if they hadn't been."

Just throwing back a little of what the DC folks have been force feeding on this forum for some time. Does the word 'fundie', and 'muslim extremist' ring a bell. It better, because there is quite a history that could be dredged up, especially on threads with the first post starting out with the BS 'everybody be nice'.

"BTW, many of these people that have been banned are hard working scientists... one of whom is currently engaged in research to thwart terrorists."

Swell. I wish that individual success--honestly. But that does not mitigate in the least the reprehensible conduct (BTW, you are talking about the misnamed 'RightWingProfessor', whose own words here were something to the effect of regretting ever doing something for the right

"Ironic, isn't it? Do you have any idea how what you wrote comes across? And do you even give a d*mn?"

Actually, I don't. And the victim ploy is disingenuous, given the history. I'm not fond of folks who quote scripture in place of thought, but I despise those who decide to prey upon the civility of others. In other words, if you haven't seen it, watch the movie 'Witness' and watch the teen punks picking on an Amish person, knowing that said Amish will not fight back. Then along comes the character played by Harrison Ford.

And before you start running back to your site, keep in mind that there are folks on this forum who do understand science, and resent the crap that's been thrown about. Also keep in mind that some folks don't 'talk shop' here, and its none of your god d**ned business what they do for a living.

Now, you want to talk science, then do so. Once that becomes 'conservatives are retards' or 'conservatives are anti-science', a line gets crossed.
This blowup has been festering for a long time. I'm surprised its taken this long to start kicking some a**.

"So your an anti-freeper.If you have a science website do science.Don't talk about another website. It will pull you down."

No. I'm not anti-freeper. You misunderstood. What I was trying to say is that the other site provides more than enough evidence to show just how disingenous how its members (not all) can be.

If "Buncha people just got tossed over the side of the FR boat. " doesn't equal "banned" then what does it mean?

Yeah sure, you didn't say banned in so many words but there's not a lot of other interpratations. If they left on their own, they weren't *tossed*. Slippery.

Is that kind of like you just called me a Marxist (#719) because I stated the obvious that Marxists (meaning the left) use "science" as a weapon against us? And then next accusing me of claiming all scientists are Marxists (#735)?

I am your friend. I've been trying to talk to you man to man for two nights now. I'm being your friend, because I'm not just telling you what you want to hear.

The GOP must be the party of reason and science. We cannot cede those positions to the Dems. There are some folks who say that modern biology diametrically opposed to faith. I don't buy that for a minute. I've known too many people in biology who are Christians and Jews. None of them had any problem with Darwin's theory of natural selection or Mendel's theory of inheritance or the rest of it.

The only conflict between science and faith is that which people manfacture, but there are some people on this board trying to manufacture conflict. Scratch some of these guys, and you find some real pieces of work. That that Ted Holden character (medved) is back posting again under a new nick. He's a fruit loop. I don't want the Republican party to become associated with his brand of idiocy.

Opinions "might" vary; however, in the scheme and history of FR, you are insignificant and THAT is a fact.....not an opinion.

Case in point: you and your ilk hijacked this thread and turned it into a flame war and a place to air your own agendas, pimp your forum, and insult Jim and everyone else who is not part of your teensy group. I group, I might add, which spends the vast majority of its time discussing something that is NOT politics. This forum was set up for the debate and discussion of POLITICS!

Yes, by now, FR has morphed into a site that encompasses other things.........which is okay if you people stay in your own part of FR, I guess; however, you don't. You came onto this thread and ruined it.

Little jeremiah said that the word "fundie" is not an insult, rather a neutral descriptive term.

I have been fighting against the Marxist "everything is political" (art, science, cooking, etc.) for more than ten lustrums. It's sad (but not surprising) to see that such an idea has taken hold with Conservatives.,p> I think some of the Conservatives have been worn out by fighting it too--either they have been exposed to it for too long, and have in resignation begun to believe it, since it is all they see; or they have got tired of losing with high principles and have decided to fight fire with fire.

Glad to see you're still here posting, BTW.

Cheers!

His son is in Iraq.

So I should automatically adhere to his views in their entirety?

I would thank his son for his service, of course; for that, we are all grateful.

You are not a leader-don't waste my time and post to me again.

OK. Sorry you feel that way.

You're right. this is a lefty fantasy about our split and demoralized party.

A dem victory would be disastrous; investigations, gridlock, scandal, hysteria and vitriol on a scale not seen in some time. Hope the country doesn't have to learn the hard way.
