(Harold)Ford asks Kerry to apologize

MEMPHIS — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. issued a statement this morning calling on U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to apologize for comments that Republicans including President Bush contend disparage U.S. troops in Iraq.

“Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Rep. Ford said. “He needs to apologize to our troops.”

But Rep. Ford, who served as an honorary co-chairman of Sen. Kerry’s 2004 failed presidential bid, said that the senator’s “words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms. They deserve a plan for victory as good as they are, and as senator I intend to see they get one.”

Kerry's comments ARE very hurtful to those that have loved ones in harms way because--

his comments only serve to PUBLICALY give ENCOURAGEMENT and 'aid-and-comfort' to our enemies who are currently threatening them on the front lines as we speak!

Kerry does not yet realize that he has no shot in 2008.

Especially since he keeps shooting himself in the foot.....on full auto.

Cubicle bound with Fox on my XM radio. Is this thing getting coverage on other than Fox?

The you-tube video of Kerry making the statement at the college has over 400,000 view hits.

It is getting play. Conservative talk radio is all over it.

Dems and MSM are wanting it (and John) to just go away.

Yesterday at the close of CNN's The Situation Room, Wolfie, Paula and Cafferty were almost despondent. They said they hoped this would go away soon and they hoped it wouldn't continue more than a day or two.

John Kerry has canceled (or been requested to cancel) most of his schedule. Rumor is that he is in emergency surgery having his foot extracted from his mouth.

That particular surgery is scheduled immediately after the 'cranial-rectal' removal procedure is done.

Maybe, if we're really lucky and Master Rove has his machine working, AlGore will make a major speech today.

Here is TN, there is an Amendment on the ballot regarding Gay Marriage that will bring out a lot of conservative voters. I voted yesterday in Nashville (Davidson County) and heard that the turnout is already about 20% higher than it was in the '04 election and early voting doesn't close until Friday. Of course, our local media has reported this high turnout. /sarcasm

Do you have a link for that poll please? I must have missed that one.

CNN showed a graphic yesterday. I think they said it was a Rasmussen poll.

You might check their website or Rasmussen.

The point of getting Kerry to apologize is the damage it will do in the Democrat base. They think Kerry was right. They will see a Kerry apology as an admission by Kerry the both he and they were wrong.

This was Kerry's "howard Dean" moment. He has backtracked by saying he meant it to be an attack on the President and not the troops. In a time of war, it is in poor taste to attack the Commander in Chief. You can disagreee with him without attacking him, but the left's hatred for this President comes thru once again.

This is another example of how the left in this country has no respect for the Military.

Rass has Tennessee Senate:

Corker (R) 47% Ford (D) 46%
on 10/27

Which is an improvement. I will look for it. I suspect it is Zogby.

Found it: "Corker's campaign on Tuesday hailed an Opinion Research Corp. poll, conducted for CNN, that showed the Republican ahead of Ford 52 percent to 44 percent - the biggest Corker lead in any poll in the past two months."

A crack in the dem silence?

Ford was probably selected by Pelosi to issue this statement. As for the dem silence, I'd say it was John F'n who broke the dem 'omerta'.

You are giving a political reason why the GOP should want to force an apology. I suppose you always gain by coercing your enemy to do something he does not want to--you demonstrate that they have to bend to your will in some fashion. What I am saying is different, it is that any apology would be phony, and so there is no point to forcing and then accepting an apology--except your political points scorecard. If he came out and said that he has reexamined his whole life and what he has done to the military, and understands now the harm that he caused, and apologizes for his testimony in 1971, 2 years ago, and this most recent episode, that would seem heartfelt and could be accepted. But we know that is not what is going to happen, right? Instead, he will end up giving some lame apology, saying that, "I did not intend to impugn the military, but I want to apologize for the way my remarks were misunderstood" and a bunch of go-along GOPers will say, "ah, isn't that nice, let's move on" and it will be over. Instead of making Kerry's lifelong attitude the issue, one that cannot go away with just an apology.

He's trying to win in the Volunteer State.

He has no choice but to oppose Kerry.

I doubt he means a word of it.

And I believe the vast majority of Tennessee voters know that, but this a great twofer, Harold jr. backstabbing a leader of his own political party, 6 days before an election.
