Thank you very much for your comments. As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop.

This is the finest military that we've ever had. I have fought a lifetime on behalf of veterans. We have the finest young men and women serving us in the United States military that we've ever had, and I’m proud of that. As a combat veteran, I know the dedication, integrity, and commitment of American troops. I've lived it. Had George Bush and Dick Cheney lived it one minute of their comfortable lives in combat they would never have sent American troops to war without body armor or without a plan to win the peace and they wouldn't be exploiting our troops today.

The White House's attempt to distort my true statement is a remarkable testament to their failure in making America safe. It is a stunning statement about their willingness to reduce anything in America to raw politics. It is textbook Republican campaign tactic. Try to change the topic; try to make someone else the issue; not the policy, not their responsibility.

I apologize to no one for my criticism of the President and of his broken policy. If anyone owes our troops in the fields an apology, it is the President. It's their willingness to distort, their willingness to mislead Americans, their willingness to exploit the troops, as they have so many times at backdrops, at so many speeches at which they have not told the American people the truth. It’s George Bush's broken policy that kills and maims our heroes in Iraq every single day. His pathetic attempt to distort a botched joke about President Bush is a shameful effort to distract from a botched war.

President Bush owes an apology to our troops and to their families for mistake after mistake in Iraq. George Bush didn't do his homework when he ran from sound intelligence about Iraq. Dick Cheney didn't learn from the lessons of the Gulf War when he forgot his own advice not to get bogged down in Iraq. George Bush didn't do his homework when he ignored General Shinseki's advice to go to war with enough troops to maintain order. This entire administration didn't learn anything about telling the truth; otherwise they would have leveled with the American people that we are stuck in a civil war in Iraq today.

The following is my email response to Mr. Kerry's email to me:

First, let me state emphatically, our President owes no one an apology, and he has not "botched" anything regarding the war in Iraq. It is the liberals in this country who keep "botching" things with their partisan, politically motivated attempts to regain power in Congress, while at the same time rendering aid and comfort to our enemies. Liberals should be ashamed of their behavior during this time of war.

Second, you have made a political career out of belittling and bashing our military, Mr. Kerry. You claim to be a combat veteran, but my son has now more time in combat than you ever did, and he is not attempting to wound himself in order to be sent home after a brief stint. Further, your bashing of the President and Vice President rings hollow in light of the fact that you have shown complete support of Mr. Clinton, who not only never served in uniform (as did President Bush), but is known to have gone to foreign countries while we were at war and belittled his own country. Stop this partisan one-sided bashing of convenience, Mr. Kerry.

Third, you do owe all of our troops, as well as President Bush and his administration a huge apology for your hurtful and callous remarks. If you cannot bring yourself to issue a REAL apology, then Americans have no alternative but to know you as the pompous, narcissistic, egomaniacal, self-aggrandizing fool that you've shown yourself to be. Our military is not "stuck" in Iraq, and we are not engaged in a civil war in Iraq. Perhaps you should spend some time over there and ask the people of Iraq if they wish to have our troops there, and if they want to have a peaceful country. Our military and the Iraqi people are fighting insurgents (many from other countries) and terrorists who are trying to move Iraq into a civil war. I'd think that someone who claims to have intelligence would be able to tell the difference. But, perhaps I'm wrong. You don't have any intelligence. My family has four members serving in our armed forces, and all of them are intelligent. They enlisted in order to defend our nation and help the Iraqi people. They were/are full aware of what is at stake, unlike you who seem to think you are above all that. As far as intelligence goes, I'll stack up my B.A. (Suma cum laude, with Honors) and my M.A. against your bought and paid for education from Yale any day.

With going on 3000 troops having sacrificed their lives for people like you to be free to make stupid comments, making your "botched" joke (as you call it) is completely inappropriate. Our nation being at war is not a "joke" Mr. Kerry, and you have no business trying to make "jokes" during this time of war. When I think of people like you being in the positions you are in, I think about what might have been had you, Pelosi, Murtha, Kennedy, Reid, Reed, Schumer, et al had been in Congress during WWII. I can only surmise that we would probably have lost that war.

You need to step down from your Senate seat Mr. Kerry. You are not fit to be a political leader in this nation, and your continued bashing of our military is just providing fodder for our enemies. This is a sad state of affairs when our enemies are rooting for the Liberals in this country to take control of Congress so that they can defeat American. You are an embarrassment and a liability to our nation. Resign now while we still have a chance to win this war.

Sincerely,

Richard L. Pinnell

An apparently educated father! :)

So perhaps John Kerry hadn't meant to insult our troops, but why would I be OK with him openly insulting our country's President in a time of war?

THAT is not a "joke" either. And haven't forgotten John Effin Kerry's history of despising our military and saying so outloud - "cut off limbs, tortured" "terorizing Iraqi women and children in the dead of night."

It seems to me that Johh Kerry was insulting both our Troops AND our President!

Thank you and your family for your service. AND for your wonderful letter. Whether Carry himself reads it or a staffer does, it will be read. More importantly, it will be read around FR and the web. Thank you so much.

Even if Kerry reads it he will blame you instead of accepting what you said.

Kerry and his crew have to contort themselves every which way to try to avoid responsibility for his words.

Neary everyone that heard his original statement, especially those who truly support the troops, took his statement as an insult to the troops and he has NEVER taken responsibility for that insult.

And he never will. Taking responsibility is not part of his character.

That was also the view I had.

It has nothing to do with Kerry. It has to do with those illiterate twits in Mass. that (not who, in their case) choose to have Kerry, Kennedy, Meehan, Frank et al. represent them.

Not from Robert. Bad news from Iraq, though. The Iraqi Government has cancelled all leaves due to the expected verdict from the Sadaam trial and the possible resulting violence. Not sure whether that involves U.S. troops or not. Praying NOT.

If you do get featured on Hannity- just tell Shawn that you represent all of us here when you told Kerry that he has been disrespectuful of his commander in Cheif- his superior, in a time of war and has caused derision in this country when our servicemen and women need a unified pipartisan support & that you're just fed up with the burining vitriol comming from the left. This country needs a powerful reminder that we should stand united, not divided during this war agaisnt terror- they got one on Sept. 11, & for the most part, we all spoke as one voice, but I'm afraid that soem in this country have VERY short memories and have lost the nerve to do the right thing by confronting terrorism. Cal Thomas just visitted Guantanamo to check out the conditions there and what he found was that the terrorists are treated with respect, given all kinds of perks that normal criminals in prison wouldn't receive, and yet, they still tell the guards that they are going to kill them if they ever get out & they assault our troops with feces, weapons made from scratch, other bodily fluids etc. America needs to understand that these people have ALWAYS hated us and want us dead and they ALWAYS will- treating them nicely will NEVER change their minds! Talks will ALWAYS lead to nothing but our getting hit by them when we least expect it! There is NO appeasing these maggots!

Well said CottShop. If I were to be asked to appear on H&C, I would indeed express the views of all Americans who are tired of the liberal attacks against our nation, and the liberal support given to our enemies. God Bless, and thanks.

I phoned Kerry's office and asked for an apology "but moreso his resignation."
The woman who picked up after about 30 rings thanked me for calling and seemed a bit shaken as I think that there were many similar calls all coming in before 10 am.

By 5pm we know that Kerry cowardly had his office put up the weasly apology that was another condescending slap at the troops and a lame attempt to salvage his political future.

He has none.

And it was the least I could do on behalf of you, your son and the 10th Mountain!

Humbly,
RW

You, sir, should consider serving in Congress. We could surely use such a principled, articulate voice.

Thank you for those words. Writing this letter while sitting at a keyboard with time to think out my words was easy. Being able to articulate under the pressure of the Congressional pressure cooker? Not sure I could manage that. I will thank my son on your behalf. Please thank yours from me and my family.

I send you a huge thank you for that phone call. By now Kerry must know that he isn't very well received among Americans who support our Constitution, our President, our Troops, and our Nation. He must be relieved that he's a Senator in Massachusetts. He now couldn't make it anywhere else but there and maybe New York or kalifornistan (where I am).
