A simple rule of thumb for watching Florida election returns -

The northern, more Republican areas of Florida always report earlier than South Florida, which is heavily Dim. If the early returns show Republican candidates up with about 60 percent of the vote, it should be a very good night for the GOP. If they only get up to about 55 percent or so in the early returns, it's starting to become squeaker territory. Anything much below 55 percent, Republicans are in trouble.

There's nothing scientific about any of this -it's just based on my observations of previous elections.

Polls in Florida close at 8, please remove it from the list, unless no one cares about the panhandle.

Dan, is that you at the computer? Dan?

Not a bad idea, imo to have by states threads.

Remember - not all of Florida closes at 7PM Eastern. The western parts of the heavily-Republican panhandle close at 8PM Eastern.

A fact conveniently "forgotten" by Dan Rather in 2000 when he gave the election results at 7 PM for Florida.

Not much going on in Georgia. Sonny Purdue should coast. Casey Cagel should ride his coat tails.

The biggest races in Georgia are GA8 and GA12 both have dem incumbents that are on track to lose their seats.

GA8: Collins(R) vrs Marshall (D)

GA12: Burns (R) vrs Barrows (D)

Dan Rather is wound up tighter than the lug nuts on a rusty '56 Chevy.

He's spewing partisan lies like a CNN producer.

He's as dumb as a post, almost as good looking as one.

I honestly don't think I've ever been this jacked up about an off-year election in my 40 years on this planet. After seeing what the Rats here in Virginia have tried to do to a decent, solid man like George Allen, it's just gotten me furious. As Ol' Serpenthead once said to Larry King many years ago, "This is WAH, Larrah! It's WAH!"

Damn right it's war. On a lot of different fronts. And now it's time to pray that the Mother of Presidents does the right thing one more time, and sends George Allen back to Washington for six more years. I can't bear to think of my home, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Henry, Mason, Lee, Jackson, Stuart, and so many more, sending a man like Jim "Born Idiot" Webb to represent us.

Poll worker Shirley Rossetti stands next to a broken voting machine in Allentown, Pa., that election workers say was smashed by a voter.

Musta only let him vote once...

President Bush was in Georgia last Monday night and Tuesday night for the two GOP candidates. NRO Corner has "inside" info showing Burns winning. Collins has a great shot at it.

Collins & Burns are the only races of national importance in GA
