That's what I've been thinking. Allen is 1700 behind with 99.26 reporting, but the absentees should do the trick in a pretty big way. I heard Virginia had a big absentee and early voting turnout AND I heard is was heavily Pub.

Loudoun and Prince William are becoming bluer every year.

If "comprehensive immigration reform" is passed, Northern Virginia will become very blue with the new voters and probably tip the whole state into a blue state.

You could be right. Some people don't like McCain's personality, but we all need to start taking a closer look at his personality, principles, and character. There's a big difference between personality and character. Bill Clinton usually has a pleasant personality but he has very poor character--last in moral authority among all Presidents. McCain is kind of cranky and contentious sometimes, but I think he has good character overall and he's a decent man from a good family. His father was an Admiral in the US Navy.

Less than 50% of registered people voted. I realize that is high by historical standards but more people didn't vote than could have based on the Commonwealth's site for most of the night.

Even though it's not on the border, Virginia has a serious problem with illegal aliens.

Allen was on the right side of this, but many voters who are sick of all the crime and public expense of illegals were frustrated that the Republicans in the Senate and the White House still insisted on amnesty and open borders.

You can't get a job as a carpenter or drywaller or painter or mason in Northern Virginia because the illegals have sucked them all up. These are the blue collar guys who used to go Republican (Reagan Democrats). A lot of them this year were saying to hell with the Republicans, they're no different than the Democrats.

Lesson not learned department:

Tony Snow commenting tonight at the White House: "well maybe the President can work with the new majority and get comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty) passed."

Clueless. They're already trying to blow 2008.

[What are you smoking? After p!$$ing away what should have been an easy coast to re-election, Allen is through as a Presidential contender.]

I'm sure Hillary is very happy tonight about that fact. We'll see.

How many outstanding votes still need to be counted? Does anyone have solid info on that?

Call me cynical but I cannot imagine Virginia being settled without lawyers and a recount. I don't think we know tonight either way.

AP said something about the numbers being inverted and numbers different from the officials. I'm still trying to find out what's going on. Do you have any more information?...Allen said somethng about his in his statement - said the news services had "transposed" numbers and he was actually ahead by about 5000 votes, with a few districts still to be counted, but things had been shut down for the night.......

The historical average for a six year itch is 32 house seats and 8 senate seats.

Just a bad year for the Pubs. Regroup and get it done in two.

I dunno. However, Allen is through as a 2008 Presidential candidate even if he manages to pull victory from the jaws of defeat at this point.

Actually, it really was a coincidence. Fairfax County (outside of DC, the biggest county in the state) had two of their three absentee ballot "precincts" reported to the State Board of Elections at the same time, and they went:

Central Absentee Precinct ( C008) 2433 Allen - 4708 Webb
Central Absentee Precinct ( C010) 2766 Allen - 4157 Webb

That's what shifted Born Idiot from 1800 down to about 1800 up. Most (not all) of the absentee "precincts" left to count are in counties or cities that Webb won by some amount. The key thing now is the military ballots, and I'm not sure how those are handled. But absentees are (supposed to be) lumped in with these counts.
