McCain Starts Planning for 2008 Run

Sen. John McCain, considered the front-runner for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, intends to launch an exploratory committee next week, party officials said Friday.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting a public statement from the four-term Arizona senator.

McCain, the Republican maverick who unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination in 2000, already has opened a bank account for the committee, officials said.

"The senator has made no decision about running for president," said Eileen McMenamin, a McCain spokeswoman.

Aides to McCain say the senator will discuss a presidential bid with his family over the end-of-the-year Christmas holiday.

McCain, 70, is a former U.S. Navy pilot who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He was elected to the Senate in 1986, and served in the House of Representatives for four years before that.

I'll support McCain, although I would prefer Giuliani. I suspect McCain is too old for a first run at the presidency, and he has an awful lot of personal issues.

I'll vote for him right after Hillary! changes her affiliation to the Republican party.

For some reason nowadays, I don't think voters would put as much stock on person's age like they did when Bob Dole was running for President

I'm not endorsing McCain in any way, shape or form, but I do think it would be sorta fun to watch the MSM morph him from "Straight-talkin' Maverick John McCain" into "Loony-tunes, Anti-Choice, Crypto-Fascist, Eeevil Republican John 'Keating' McCain".

"Starts Planning"??? What are they talking about? That idiot RINO has been on the campaign trail for a couple of years now. I would also like to know who considers him the front runner besides the media. Thankfully, I don't think he has a prayer of getting in.
