Looking from the outside I personally think one of the main reasons you lost were that a lot of people were convinced by the DBM that the Republican Party was too radical right wing and that where it was not it was divided so it could not achieve anything.
That brings up a parallel notion to AB's proposal. We need to watch the pols, particularly the ones on "our side," and call them on things they do and say. This kind of stuff is always most effective when it comes from a constituent, so we'll need to put out a call for FReepers local to an individual politician when we catch them at something, but we should all be keeping an eye on all of them and bringing it up here on FR.
I'm going to add info to my about page listing the politicians who I have access to vote for (or against). I'm also going to encourage others to do the same.
The top of the list is

Representative Marsha Blackburn
I'll get the complete list, including state and county offices, and put it on my about page. I'll also get the list of committee assignments they're each on.
I'll work on a tag line or a standard disclaimer that I'll add to posts soliciting comments on those on my list. Something like
I get to vote for Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator Bob Corker and Representative Marsha Blackburn. Have you heard or seen them do or say anything that they need to hear from a constituent about? Please ping me about anything related to them.
Indeed division cost many votes in my opinion the public are uneasy and saw much more unity with the Dems
Fox failed because they tried to sell "equal time" for complete reporting.
The truth is unfair and unbalanced. The truth is that islam is attacking the USA in a religious war. The truth is that there is no "moderate islam" except in the fantasies of the ivory tower MSM. Puting both side of the debate for exactly equal amounts of time means nothing to having a complete story.
Fox News failed. In fact Fox News is fairly useless without FR.

Inject the balance right at the top. I have often thought House and Senate Bills should have majority and minority titles. Like titling an act the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act" or "Amnesty and New Democratic Voter Base Act."

They'll try it, they're now calling it "Congressional Oversight" and not impeachment hearings. Sounds much better to Jane and Joe Six-pack, dontcha know. Conyers isn't the only one - Waxman has been chomping at the bit to investigate anything and everything about the Bush Admin for sometime. Now that he has a little POWER he will be sticking his nose (pun intended) into anything and everything. Conyers may need to as well as some of his supporters may demand it of him.

Henry Waxman, the vocal corporate critic slated to run a powerful committee if Democrats win the House, said he would aggressively expand oversight of many large industries -- with a focus on drug prices, oil-company profits and Halliburton Co.'s contracting work in Iraq.
In an interview, Rep. Waxman, the senior minority member of the House Government Reform Committee, said he also would boost oversight of the Bush administration, along with "waste, fraud and abuse" across the federal government -- especially rebuilding efforts in Iraq and the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Gulf Coast. The committee has extensive -- and vaguely defined -- oversight responsibilities covering broad swaths of corporate America and the government, and the chairman has the power to issue subpoenas, compel testimony and call hearings.
Of particular concern, Mr. Waxman said, would be rooting out what he called "profiteering." His aides define the term broadly enough that it encompasses Iraq contracting, the massive growth in homeland security expenditures, pharmaceutical prices and soaring oil-industry profits. Probes into prices and profits could prove controversial, however, because the government itself has never been able to define precisely what constitutes price-gouging or profiteering.
In discussing his goals, Mr. Waxman is touching on many of the hot-button issues being aired both in the campaign and behind the scenes among Democrats. The party has been debating how much to spotlight what could be controversial actions before voters go to the polls, or how much to stick to more general policy slogans. Republicans already have begun trying to cast Mr. Waxman as a partisan who would abuse his investigative powers.
A 32-year veteran of the House, Mr. Waxman, 67 years old, has had little real power since Republicans took control of the House in 1994...

I've watched the pubbies sit back and let the screaming hyenas blame the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT for Katrinia failures and not one dared to state firmly that America is a country of rugged individuals who should FIRST depend on themselves.
I think that's the ABSOLUTE killer. They should also have pointed out that the coast guard/navy/etc. saved tens of thousands. That was the top of the rollercoaster, it was all downhill from there.

Definitely agree w you RG. She used to be a Dim that sounded reasonable on intelligence and nat'l security issues and all of a sudden - Wham! I remember hearing her and thinking - whoa, where did that come from - she sure did a 180 turn.
Representative Marsha Blackburn is my kind of girl and I would be happy to see her in any leadership form. She deserves it.
The Dems have their eyes set on the WH in 2008 and won't do anything in the next two years to upset the applecart. Conyers, Rangel, Hastings, and Waxman will be kept in check. Someone should ask Harry Reid if it is a good idea to have a one party government in 2008 now that the Dems control Congress.
He should not nave signed it. To sign the bill under the pretense of a Supreme Court decision is "Clintonian".

The sort of articles and photo ops you are mentioning is why I will support my current Conservative Party leader David Cameron. He is too left leaning for me but he sees the need to do these sort of these and also go with issues that the public deem important.
If this gives us a Conservative government in 4 years then I am all for him you can do nothing out of power.

Please send your entire post to the White House, to the VP, the RNC, to every Republican Senator and Congresscritter in office. You have completely nailed the the attitudes of the RINOs. The only good thing about losing this election is the fact that we got rid of Chaffee and a few more losers. AND Spectre is no longer the chairman of the committee that he sold his soul for.
He and Leaky Leahy are interchangable.
And it's not just the DBM or MSM, the liberal bias is pervasive ... like on the entertainment TV shows we watch. Sometimes it's kinda subtle, but my antennae are way out and I always recognize it.
All we really have is talk radio (which I'm totally mad at right now) and the Internet.
I think these elections were totally local. I doubt that a lot of blue dog types who voted would have wanted the kind of dem leadership that they are going to get.

My son is a smart guy, but really clueless politically because he's not interested enough to find out the truth. He listens to sports radio, reads the (very biased) paper and maybe listens to news on TV (not FNN) and he voted democratic.
Understood. This just points out another problem Republicans seem to have. Bush wins, we run congress, and there was zero "oversight" into the Hillary & Co taking things out of the White House, zero "oversight" into all the various things Democrats said, did or do.
I've added questions to my usual one for candidates (Will you follow and enforce the US Constitution?). I'm also asking them whether or not they are willing to hold every congress critter accountable and responsible for their vote and actions? Will they start demanding resignations for those people who disgrace the USA, regardless of party? And finally, will they do what they promise to do?
Frankly, I am fed up with speeches for votes. These guys must deliver what they promise.
