(AP) PHILADELPHIA The owner of a Philadelphia cheesesteak shop that made headlines recently with its English-only ordering policy has donated $10,000 to help the city of Hazleton defend its crackdown on illegal immigration.
Im behind you 100-percent, Joey Vento, owner of Genos Steaks, wrote to Hazleton Mayor Louis Barletta. Vento posted signs during the summer telling customers, This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING SPEAK ENGLISH.
He and Barletta met last summer because of their shared views on illegal immigration. Barletta said Ventos contribution brings the citys legal defense fund to $45,000, which may still fall short of legal fees.
Hazletons ordinance would penalize companies and landlords that do business with illegal immigrants. Its implementation has been temporarily stayed by a federal judge.
Hispanic groups and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit challenging the ordinance, arguing that only the federal government can regulate immigration.
Vento defended the ordinance in an ad on Philadelphia talk radio, and Barletta and supporters have set up a a Web site, www.smalltowndefenders.com, where people can donate to Hazletons legal defense fund.

This ended the Pat's/Geno's debate for good.
It's Geno's all the way from now on.
Hmm .. likely suspects. The ACLU - a Terrorist's best friend.
Vento for President.
And God bless his soul for it!
Good American patriot Geno! If I lived there, you would get my business!!!
This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING SPEAK ENGLISH.
US taxpayer funded public schools oughta be teaching "EFL" classes instead of "ESL" classes.

Geno's has always been on the "good side" of political issues. As for the cheesesteaks? I prefer Jim's Steaks with provolone mushrooms and sauteed onions better than Geno's or Pat's. Of course sometimes (like when you are drunk) a cheese wiz wit is pretty good also.
ping
What a sick situation, where people have to make private contributions to a defense fund for a local community to enact a law supporting abiding the law.
the whole cheese wiz thing I just don't get. It's not even real cheese.
I love it when good people stand up for what is right. Bless this guy!
