The state I live in is filled with values voter "nuts." We gave Bush his biggest margin of victory of all 50 states.

Sad to hear his staffers have such a low opinion of us.

That moment came in mid-October on the Laura Ingraham Show...the Bush White House referred to values voters as “nuts.”

First I ever heard of this and I know just about everything.

I think he should have quit after he cited the other reasons.

WOW--!!

Oh, how I wish they'd read this at the Weekly Standard and the National Review.

re: You think you can snicker at people behind their backs, write them off as a lunatic fringe, and then come around smiling every two years for a vote?

Just, wow.

I think the US system works best when there are two political parties that both seek the best for the US.

I figure we are part way there: About 3/4ths of the Republicans, and about half of the Dems. I welcome the conservatives that the Dems had to run (Example: Webb in Virginia), to win. These new people will help influence the Dems in a good way, and have already put the Pelosi-Murtha corruption wing of the Democrats on notice.

I don't mourn Chaffee, he was, as Ann Coulter put it, the only guy in the Senate to dumb to not know he was really a Democrat.

The GOP was infiltrated a while ago with RATS with an agenda(think Foley). The best thing to happen from the election is we got rid of most of the traitors.

Immediately after the election, blue collar folks at work wanted to know why they didn't' make the money they thought they were suppose to have earned. It was easy to point out that there money was all there...it was the taxes that removed what use to be their's.

I really wanted to say, "You should have voted Republican." But I think it would have hurt their feelings. I'm a feelings kind of guy, and I think they're a lot smarter than needing insults to see and learn the way of the Conservative. Many of them love Jesus better than I ever could, but they grew up on demonic politics. I don't have to "preach" to such Americans. The more successful they become, the more Conservative they'll vote. If I'm a better leader that brings success to subordinates, then Value Voting wins.

Furthermore, If I suffer as my fellow Americans suffer, then Value Voting wins. My understanding of Value Voting is to put Jesus Christ on the ballot as much as possible. Who could possibly hate Jesus so much as to reject Him...even through politics? In a time where the hearts of all are laid bare for all to see, the hard hearts of the wicked will lose.

Republicans who never stood with Conservatives tend to suffer losses more than the Traditional Values leaders. I have a good feeling that there will be Traditional Values Democrat leaders crawling out of their catacombs before long. The Republican/Democrat division will be a history lesson more than an abusive game show of opposing teams for a Jerry Springer charade.

Excellent column. Bush should "send a message" to the scumbags he has surrounded himself with in this White House by firing anybody who sneered about a huge GOP constituency being "nuts". I agree with this writer - - that attitude cost a lot of votes.

Take away the last two words of that headline and you'll have an accurate analysis of Today's GOP.

The staffers must think Bush is a nut as well. With the exception of a reported story of Bush calling Ken Blackwell a nut, I've never heard of Bush sharing this view. Bush denied the report.

The cultural issues formed an integral part of the Republican rises to power in both 1980 and 1994. They are the product of bleeding-heart conservatism, people who really care for every life and who really care for the soul of our society.

I concur, and would go even so far as to say that the Pro-Life issue exclusively, being boldly vocalized and specifically proclaimed by both Ronald Reagan and G.W. Bush is the reason for their election to the presidency. It is not merely that Life is sacred to the majority of American voters, who recognize, as our Founders did, that life is a gift from God, it is that God's blessing is upon the just. Amen.

I firmly believe that if we as a people get this one issue right, that of the protection of life at every stage and age and level of development, then God will bless America again.

Let's be "Lincoln Republicans" and preachers like Martin Luther King, Jr., a people who comprehend the horror of the treatment of any human being as product, or sub-species; a movement that will not tire until all human beings are recognized by our laws, by every branch of government, as truly equal and equally free. Amen.
