A MAJOR reason and all the reason necessary to not vote for McCain for president. He is a DEMOCRAT.

The paid-for-by-Soros ads contributed mightily to the Republican defeat.

Oh, please.

The lying news media has no pride in this country and would rather tear it apart than any other thing. I am surprised that Bush did as good as he did with the lies in the media.

Soros is busy here too in another election on #2 page.

The Rabbi must have slept through the election.

Republicans were not outspent.
The Country was extremely unhappy with their governance.

Wondering out loud...

Why did Republicans choose DeWine in Ohio during the primary, then not vote for him during the election?

Could it be that 'rats were able to vote in the Republican primary? Sounds like something Soros would/could pull off.

Didn't McCain take money from George Soros?

Wasn't Soros involved in the McCain-Fiengold Bill?

Didn't McCain-Fiengold open the door for Soros funded groups to posion the political eviornment?

IMHO, this theory is way down the list and likely immaterial.

The overwhelming reason the Republicans lost is that they defeated themselves:

1) Scandals - Foley, Ney, Taft, DeLay (BS charges but he should have known better), Allen, Cunningham, Abramoff, Haggard, et al. Never mind the media's role and never mind that the Dem's were chest deep in it too - we are to blame because we didn't police ourselves. If we do, then the media has no credible fodder. This time they had plenty and were able to make the most of it.

2) They didn't walk the walk on conservative issues - smaller government, immigration control, fiscal restraint.

However, this is cause for optimism - we control our own destiny. All we have to do is stay clean enough and govern like Conservatives should. We then cream the libs in the battle of ideas, and they have no ammunition for counter-attack.

So thank you, John McCain, for your tireless efforts in behalf of McCain-Soros...

And a hearty thank you to the President for signing this stupid and unconstitutional piece of legislation.

(And an assist to the Supremes for upholding it as law)

These ads, paid for by George Soros, Peter Lewis and other multi-millionaire leftists are the direct result of, and have been made possible by, the passage of McCain-Feingold, which opened the door to unlimited spending by left-wing fat cats on behalf of liberal candidates and causes.

I hate McCain-Feingold, but this is just bunk. There was nothing in the law previously to prevent this kind of activity by millionaires. The new activity only sprung up because the parties weren't allowed to do it anymore, so people needed another venue. This only proves that McCain-Feingold is worthless and stupid (and uconstitutional), not that it seriously disadvantages the GOP.

The real problem is that Republicans did such a crappy job in power and became crooks, and and that Bush totally screwed up Iraq. Without those things, the negative advertising would not have resonated with anyone.
