Chuck swung by the Daily News for an editorial board meeting this morning, which you'll be able to read more about in tomorrow's News.
A couple of tidbits from his broader discussion (forthcoming in book form) of how he sees the shifting terrain and the Democrats' edge struck me:
"We're in better shape than [Republicans] are, because they don't realize that Reaganomics is dead, that the Reagan philosophy is dead," he said. "We realize that New Deal democracy, which is still our paradigm, which is sort of appeal to each group ... that doesn't work any more."
He had said a bit earlier, "The old Reagan theory which dominated -- which is, 'Government is bad, it's out of touch, chop off its hands as soon as it moves.' -- is over."
Not sure the conservative love affair with Chuck is going to last.

Republicans lost because the forgot Reaganism (look at the blue dog dems who won - they ran on Reagan issues). It is very alive.Yep. Conservativeness always wins. Unfortunately, once a politician gets inside the belt way, they forget what the real world is all about.

Reaganomics is still viable, of course. And we all wish there were a Reaganite in waiting. But "Reagan's philosophy" has no serious leader.
Who carries his legacy? Rick Santorum?

Reagan didn't implement that theory successfully either, so if that's the reason Reaganism is dead, then Schumer is wrong (even though you're coming down on his side).
It never existed. Government grew under Reagan.

we've got McPain and Guiliani.Don't let the media tell you that. The Republican nomination is still in the early stages and many more will be (and have) putting themselves forward. We're not nominating these folks today, as the MSM would have us believe.
Also, the media's pick does NOT equate to who gets the nomination.

Good for you! At least you admit that you are a RINO lover. Have fun voting for the Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chaffee, John McCain & George "boo hoo" Voinovichs of the world and enjoy perpetual minority status!

Conservativeness always winsKen Blackwell, the far superior candidate, and a strong conservative, lost running on solid conservative principles against a leftist posing as a moderate.
I don't think that theory is valid.
Perhaps is 'always' is changed to 'usually' it might have more of a ring of truth to it.

Don't like to be called a RINO when you call others similarly derogative names?
Sounds like a Liberal to me.

It never existed. Government grew under Reagan. And, it grew GIG time.
And under W, it's grown even BIGGER!
That's what is sickening.
The realization that we have lost our country.

He's right.
It's been over since RR left office.
Chucky is just calling a spade a spade I am still amazed at how many just give up and don't fight
Something Reagan would never do .. he might not have gotten everything he wanted .. but he took what he could get and fought for more
Have any of you all learned anything from Reagan???

Oh, I certainly DO NOT trust the MSM (LSM.)
But tell me! If I cannot get a better response on FR, then I can safely assume that there really is NOBODY waiting in the wings.
Like I said, Reagan was a seasoned veteran of the 1976 primary. He was a conservative governor in a big state.
Who do we have REMOTELY like that?
I can't see anyone.
I'm sorry, we don't have "2 years" to figure this out. The campaign is already underway.

I would add that if it weren't for the grassroots volunteers that carried the water for the incompetent imbeciles, gaining and holding power would never have happened in the first place.
These self-same grassroots volunteers were rewarded for their efforts with betrayal and abandonment.

The fact that we have no serious conservative leader to point to in 2008 proves it.THAT is a serious concern. I see all these liberals (considered "conservative" only in the farthest left wing states) trying to run as our representatives.
What we need is someone who's not tarnished by living in a liberal area. Bad company corrupts good character. I'd like to see a real, home grown, middle of the country Conservative saint run this time. We need it, and the rest of country definitely needs it.

I was thinking..... If two Supremes "accidentally" we're not on the court. (I wont say which ones, you have to guess) ALL of "Americas" problems could be addressed literally overnight. You get a "stupid" piece of Legislation form a Judge, this argument could be brought to the court and corrected. One Painstaking Brick At A Time. Could this possibly be the start of something?

I'm more conservative than the vast majority on this board, if not all......across the board.
The difference is that I remember Reagan as he was, and not the myth, and I value the leadership, courage and integrity of his peer, George W. Bush.
Neither is perfect. Reagan did some very weak things. But both men are/were incredible leaders with principles from which they would not shrink.
God has blessed us with two amazing Presidents in our life time, and I, unlike the pseudo cons on this board, respect and admire them both.

"Well it's obvious you don't know thing about Reaganism"
I'd say that some here have forgotten or are too young know, President Reagan credited much of his success in office on his "11th commandment".
Never publicly attack your fellow Republicans.
If only the "true conservatives" knew how truly destructive they really are to everything they claim to support.
