Terri's Story
Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation ^ | December 3,2006 | Schindler Foundation

Posted on 12/03/2006 3:03:26 AM PST by 8mmMauser

Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.

Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.

Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the family’s dog, Bucky.

Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.

In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.

The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terri’s church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.

In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy – neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.

On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.

As Msgr. Malanowski gave us the words for these days of Advent, these days building to Christmas, the message was a positive one, a gift from Terri. In dwelling on this positive note, we must still be aware of the machine which visited this darkness on those for whom Terri has become a rallying point.

In the event we relax and suppose the events surrounding Terri are past, this item serves as a reminder.

You could make the case that Kevorkian's lifelong campaign to change the way Americans think about death has been dead in the water since then-Oakland Circuit Judge Jessica Cooper sent him to the hoosegow back in 1998.

Physician-assisted suicide remains illegal in 49 states. The U.S. Supreme Court seems further than ever from recognizing a constitutional right to die, and even the court-sanctioned suspension of life-sustaining treatment can still occasion a national convulsion, as it did in the death of Terri Schiavo.

But if champions of assisted suicide failed to deliver any legal revolution to rival Roe v. Wade, their opponents haven't fared much better.

BRIAN DICKERSON: Right-to-die movement will outlast Kevorkian

And as a reminder of the words sent to us by Msgr. Malanowski...

.....................

A Tribute

We are all born for heaven.  The birth of Jesus on which we focus during Advent, reminds us of our eternal birth into everlasting happiness when we complete our journey on earth.  Terri Schindler-Schiavo has shown us the way to our heavenly home by her heroic life of love and sacrifice.  Terri, lovingly and tenderly is waiting for the way when, we, too, will enter the doorway of our eternal home and share with her the peace and joy which the birth of Jesus promises by His Coming on earth.

May our Christmas holy days, 2006, fulfill for our human and spiritual desires and be grateful for the life and memory of Terri Schindler as she celebrates her second birthday (12/3) in heaven.  Terri has taught us how to love perfectly- the gift of life.

A Blessed Christmas to all-filled with many Graces and Blessings!  A Happy and Healthy New Year!

Monsignor Thaddeus F. Malanowski

And yet, as Albert Carter shows in the reflective and moving book "Our Human Hearts," part of a Kent State University Press series on literature and medicine, it remains for most of us what it has long been: the seat of special emotion; even more than the brain, the symbol of ongoing life . Even when Terri Schiavo's mind was long gone, she was still understood to be alive while her heart continued to beat.

The National Catholic Register echoes an earlier piece...

.................

ASSOCIATED PRESS, Dec. 2 — Spurred by the Terri Schiavo case, more Catholics around the country are turning to the Church for end-of-life documents that follow Church teachings, said the Associated Press.

Father Christopher Mahar of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich, R.I., is offering seminars designed to help parishioners work through the legalese often found in end-of-life agreements. He’s making available durable power of attorney documents.

The form allows the signer to designate a medical decision maker in case the signer becomes incapable. The signer, ideally, would choose someone who would make decisions faithful to Church teachings regarding euthanasia. Dioceses in South Dakota, Florida, Michigan and Washington have made such paperwork available to parishioners.

A rare excerpt from JBS, the John Birch Society....

......................

Euthanasia is performed when one determines that a certain standard or "quality of life" is not being met. A recent and tragic example of this is last year's forced starvation and dehydration of Terri Schiavo. Another example is the euthanasia investigation at a Louisiana hospital where some hospital workers were accused of terminating the life of some patients following Hurricane Katrina.

Ping to a thread by former ACLU member as noted by The Sarce, a Bernie McCabe moment...

Remember the girl who received a five-day suspension for bringing Tylenol to school? If that punishment seems excessive, how about a 25-year prison sentence for having Tylenol at home?

In 2004 a Florida jury convicted Richard Paey of drug trafficking involving at least 28 grams of the narcotic painkiller oxycodone, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years. But there was no evidence that Paey, who has suffered from severe chronic pain for two decades, planned to do anything with the pain reliever except relieve his pain. And since he was taking Percocet, a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen, the over-the-counter analgesic accounted for 98 percent of the weight used to calculate his sentence.

I wish we could only post the nice news, the happy news, but the enemies against life never rest, certainly not before the celebration of Christmas. Ping to wagglebee thread.

Identified only as "Kelly" the woman related how, at age 14, she was taken to Kansas by her parents from her home in Maryland, and given an abortion in the 20th week of pregnancy.

According to Kelly, she was forced to deliver her dead child into a toilet, an event that traumatized her and led to self-destructive behavior over the next ten years.

Ping to a message from the Pope on life...

The Vatican (LifeNews.com) -- Vatican officials have released the text of a speech Pope Benedict XVI is expected to give for World Day of Peace 2007, the January 1 celebration sponsored by the Catholic church. In the speech, the pontiff says that true world peace can't be achieved as long as nations allow the killing of unborn children via abortion.

On a more cheerful note, a ping to this wagglebee thread...

Seattle, WA (LifeNews.com) -- An abortion business in Seattle that targeted poor women is closing after doing abortions for thirty-four years. The Aradia Women's Health Center abortion facility is closing down because it mostly does abortions on low-income women and rising costs for rent and other expenses have made it difficult to operate.

The abortion center, located in First Hill, will shut down next month and lay off its twenty employees.

Ping to a thread by Rutles4Ever on the story of the Ukrainian use of babies as a source of embryonic stem cells. Thanks, cyn.

Healthy new-born babies may have been killed in Ukraine to feed a flourishing international trade in stem cells, evidence obtained by the BBC suggests.

Send a "Merry Christmas" greeting....

It's time to wish the ACLU a Merry Christmas! No, not "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" or even "Kabala Kwanzaa." And certainly not "Xmas." We're talking actual "Merry Christmas" here.

Couldn't I just sent the ACLU and Planned Barrenhood some used underwear and take a tax deduction like Klintoon did?

Same death merchants peddling both of these leftist "causes." Same non-constitutional law at the heart of it, here (with apologies for citing Wikipedia): Griswold v. Connecticut

As usual, liberals doing the work of the devil.

I like it! ACLU needs all the used underwear it can get, and of course donors get a tax deduction for their kindness. I am quite sure the ACLU prefers to use its own laundry facilities, so do not wash the underwear before you mail it.

How about old newspapers? Can I take a deduction on those? For that matter, they can have all of my garbage every week.

Women paid "up to" $200 to carry a baby for 12 weeks, then abort it for tissues. Iow, women harvesting and slaughtering their own children for pocket change. There are no words for the sickness of this. God have mercy.

>> Q. How about old newspapers? Can I take a deduction on those?

A. Only liberal newspapers are deductible. This is because liberal organizations can recycle the news, the editorials, the sniffy attitude, and all of the adjectives. You are probably not aware of it but liberal reporters use fill-in-the-blank forms to write news stories. They often use the same story hundreds of times. After 500 uses, the stories are filed away as "established myth" and retired. A memo is sent to Snopes dot com certifying that all 500 lies are true.

Do not try to deduct the Washington TIMES or the editorial pages of the Wall Street Journal. Not only will your claim be disallowed, you will be arrested by Thought Control Police.
