Yes, as though they know he is right there. Which prompted my earlier question of why is he not answering to their calls?

It's a natural inclination for lost hikers to go down a river thinking that it has to lead to "civilization." Unfortunately, that inclination is often incorrect and also dangerous. The best alternative, if one knows someone is looking for them, is to stay in a visible place and make known your whereabouts. I don't say this to cause any criticism of Mr. Kim or what is now the situation in his case, but I've seen several cases even recently where lost folks have followed rivers only to be in a worse situation.
