Banzai launched on Pearl Harbor day
The Patriot-News ^ | Friday, December 08, 2006 | NANCY ESHELMAN

Looks like some folks over at Hershey's Ice Cream forgot yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Hershey's picked that day -- the day that will live in infamy, as it is known -- to announce its new product: Banzai Energy Ice.

This is more a commentary on the abysmal educational system that has a product developed and released without knowing history than poor PR/Marketing. Then again, maybe they planned it. Look at the free advertising.

BTW: Do ya think The Hershey's Company (THE chocolate guys not these ne’er-do-wells) is not highly P.O.-ed at the fact that they are giving them a bad name?

Nothing in marketing is 'accidental'.

It might be a mistake or a bad idea, i.e., 'New Coke', but never an accident.

Well, the marketing floozies don't know. The public at large doesn't know (esp my generation). Blind leading the blind...

Girls : Dec 7? What is so special?
Me: Date of infamy? World War 2? Hawaii?
Girls: (blank stare)
Me: Ben Affleck? Josh Harnett? Cuba Gooding Jr?
Girls: Ooooh right Pearl Harbor! *giggle*
Me: What's your major?
Girls: PolySci, International Affairs, and Government

I wish I was making that up.

There won't be an outcry the left in this country is redoing their quest against our boys into history as well. Alot of them don't even think ww2 was fully justified.

If it was a mistake, it is a brilliant mistake.

They'd have a better seller if they named it Kamakazi Energy Drink.

Nothing in marketing is 'accidental'.

But sometimes they do have huge screwups by people who just don't know history or language. An example is Reebok's Incubus shoes. Nice going guys - name a shoe after a demon that rapes women in their sleep.

I agree: it's no accident. Let's just see if they choose next August 6th to launch "Atomic Fudge".

Do the marketing people understand that they named the drink "May the Emperor Live a Thousand Years Energy Ice"

Not as bad as an orange juice energy drink company signing O.J. Simpson to push their drink two months before he offed Nicole and Ron.

Nice going guys - name a shoe after a demon that rapes women in their sleep.

Considering the target market's obsession with gangsta rap & emulating NBA players ....
