What do you think we should do with Iraq?

Well, I see everyone has their own opinion on what we should do in Iraq. So I figured I'd start a central thread for all ideas, comments, and debate.

If the Mods don't like it, or think it's no good than they can delete it.

I want to hear Osama say:

"Now we're totally screwed. That's it, game over!"

We need to stop screwing around and put this nation on a true war footing. While events similar to 1938 play themselves out in the Middle East, our leaders seem obliged to bury theirs heads in the sand and act like it's only a regional problem. The problem is, though, that is it's global - and it's already started. Iraq is just a campaign in a bigger war that many Americans have to yet to fully understand and that the Administration seems hesitant to verbalize.

When we see car manufacturers being tasked to build equipment, when we see enlistment goals being pushed above 100,000 and when we see the nation's citizens being asked to sacrifice for the nation, then, and only then, will we know we're in this for the long haul. Anything else is a charade.

You'd have to have a piece out of Turkey also, and the Turks probably won't sit still for a free Kurdistan.

-change the Rules of Engagement
-Broker and pressure an Iraqi Government that is willing to
crush Sadr
-Stop any border-crossing from Syria, Iran and Saudi-Arabia
-Bomb Iran's regime, WMD's and Military facilities
-Kill Assad
-Kill Nasrallah
-Fortify Kurdistan
-Move secular and christian Iraqis to Kurdistan
-Fortify Kurdistan even more
-Give Sunnis and Shias quasi-authonomous entities in Iraq
-distribute the oil wealth between all factions
-stay in fortified bases in Iraq for the next decades to ensure lasting presence
-use our presence to quell ANY terrorist/WMD threat in the region without hesistation

I haven't the slightest clue about foreign policy. I have no idea what should be done.

Given that most of the ideas thus far range from 'let them kill each other off' to 'Nuke them from orbit', I'd say you're not the only one. ;-)

In a year or so, there's little standing in the way of an all out Shia-Sunni battle in the region. As we leave, the Shiites in Iraq will drop the hammer on the Sunnis, and Saudi Arabia will be drawn into defending their neighbors.

Demand congress and the President get balls and then let the military handle it. Without aggressive action, we should get our guys/gals out. We don't need another roadside bomb to kill or injure our warriors and the people of Iraq don't need 60 people killed per day.

Personally I think we need to bring our troops home and have them guard our own borders.

I know what I THINK should be done.

But I also have enough sense that nobody in their right mind would take my advise on a subject that I know nothing about.

Just because I saw a surgical procedure on TLChannel doesn't mean that I should walk into a doctor's office and tell him how to operate on someone.

Take off, nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Very good post. We haven't only forgotten 9/11, but I fear a sizable minority never learned its lesson from the beginning.

Well, define the enemy. Terrorism is a tactic, not a enemy.

Start basic "These are the bad guys 101" and make sure all the information is put out there in an easy to read, idiot-friendly format.

Have leadership that talks about the problems we face presently and what could happen in the future if we do not face them, and talk it up often.

For starters.

Anything we (or the currently elected Iraqi government) wants to do inside the country is moot unless the border is locked down. Secure the perimeter, and let the Iraqis solve the internal problem. It'll be resolved sooner rather than later if only through attrition from lack of jihadi resupply.
