"Oh I forget, it doesn't count unless the sport is perceived as "black"."

That's right. I'll give you another example. Boxing, a lot of those guys are black and they are always fighting and the WBC, WBO, WBA all encourage it.

I saw the game and what started the melee was a FLAGRANT and DANGEROUS foul Knick second stringer Mardy Colins made against JR Smith.

In the first place, it was a USELESS foul. The Nuggets were up by 19 with just over a minute left ( impossible for the Knicks to catch up ). THE FOUL WAS USELESS STRATEGICALLY. Better to just allow JR Smith to score.

The second place, the foul was dangerous and could have broken Smith's neck ( it was a clothesline ).

Now ask yourself the question --- WHO ACTUALLY COULD'VE TOLD Mardy Colins to do that foul ?

If you answered -- Coach Isaiah Thomas, go to the head of the class.

Yet, this guy gets away with no punishment... GO FIGURE !

I went to a basketball game and a fight, I mean, a rap concert, I mean, a gun fight broke out.

... I mean, a gang fight broke out.

I agree. Collins is the one who started it with his danderous, cheap shot foul, and he should have had the biggest fine. Smith was understandably irate, and Robinson was just defending his teammate.

I don't have a dog in the fight but it seems to me that Mardy Collins got off way easy for his vicious attack that started it all. JR Smith was the most relentless aggressor in the entire brawl and should have the biggest penalty. Carmelo Anthony's sissy slap and run was pathetic beyond belief. I believe Nate Robinson got the raw deal. He was clotheslined to the floor and then attacked at least 3 more times including a face punch and push into the crowd from Smith and corralled into the corner away from his teammates while his reciprocal actions didn't amount to much more than trying to stay on his feet.

according to the NY sports pages there's bad blood between George Karl and Isaiah Thomas

1) Isaiah fired Larry Brown
2) George Karl is friends with Larry Brown
3) Karl was running up the score to humiliate Thomas
4) Thomas is on videotape warning Denver players to "stay out of the paint" 2 minutes before the flagrant foul

Myself, I haven't watched basketball since the league changed the 3 point line and made hand-checking a foul (10 years ago) So this was the first time I was entertained by my home team in a decade. They should just brawl instead of play basketball.

"ThugBA"

The funny thing is that these bad incidents happen every couple of years in the NBA. Bench clearing brawls as bad or worse happen a dozen times a year in the MLB and fights break out all the time in hockey. High level soccer has more dirty play than the NBA. Its actually very clean.

I stopped watching basketball when the shot-clock came in, and my hostility increases with salaries and egos.

And it gets down to the schoolkids, as well. I was a soccor dad at the varsity level. I watch ESPN en Espanol (?) and it gets rough.

I know what you mean. Now and then I'll watch a quarter of an NFL game, but I usually end up feeling dirty, like I've just subsidized 10 illegitimate children and 20 felonies.

I can understand dislike of a lot of things in sports, but what have you got against the shot clock? Did you like the four corners offense?

Thanks.

Hey, if you saw one of your teammates about to flush your future championship ring down the toilet because of 10 unforced losses, what are you gonna do?

Grab him and stop him. Sit on him. Hold his arms down and force him to calm himself.

I might also want to order that neither team would be eligible for post season play.

The fighting would stop. I'd bet on it.

"I stopped watching basketball when the shot-clock came in, "

You stopped watching the NBA in the mid 1950s?

That is a straw man. Very few teams ever used it.

What I used to like was a team being able to run more that one play, or two if they were quick, before they are forced to shoot. Many games seem to be little more than track meets.

Headline in today's Newsday - Teflon Thomas. The Knicks are a joke; both Thomas and Dolan should be booted outta NYC.
