TALLAHASSEE · With the family cat in tow, Gov. Jeb Bush headed Friday for the next chapter of his life, leaving his Capitol office for a holiday trip to South Florida with no plans to return to the office.

Gov.-elect Charlie Crist takes over Jan. 2. Bush won't return to Tallahassee until that day, when he will attend Crist's inauguration.

"I'm going to take some time off, hopefully do a little fishing, golfing, resting, reading, exercising. And I've got to make a living, so I'll figure it out probably in January."

Bush, who has been governor since 1999, has already started adjusting to life as a private citizen, saying a couple weeks ago he was getting used to putting money in the parking meters near his new home in Coral Gables, as well a scouting out a coffee shop.

I've said many times we put the wrong Bush brother in Washington. Jeb, good luck, God bless, and thank you for a job well done!

Could not agree more.

A true conservative and pragmatist, who governed a very difficult state very well.

His older brother has insured that nobody named "Bush" ever sits in the White House again.

"Bush said he will miss the beauty and tradition of the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee -- and joked this week that he would also miss the ease of living there.
"Most of the time, most people, you know, you take showers and you use towels like six or seven times before you put the next one out," Bush said. "Here, although I've been trained to do otherwise, it's any time I want, I can have a new towel."

Huh? We're just an average family, but in my house, we use a towel ONCE and get a new on. It's no big deal to wash towels..

My husband was brought up to use a towel more than once....much more than once.

I prefer a fresh one each time....

..to each his own.

I imagine Barbara Bush instilled this in Jeb....having 5 children.

What a silly statement. As if you don't have enough things to blame on President Bush already.

I like Jeb, too. Maybe he will be our Senator someday. Anybody know the statistics on people going from governor to senator?

I know it's not unusual to go from being a big state governor to being President, however...but I doubt that it would happen in this case.

Better Crist than Davis. But I'm so tired of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

My dear Parents trained us kids to use our own ONE towel a week. I think it was to cut back on the laundry..

I just don't care for the smell of a musty, used towel...go figure?

I don't have a problem with Jeb..:)

"US Senator from Florida "

I was so disappointed that he didn't run this time around. I think he could have beaten that moron nelson. I don't think that Jeb will run against Martinez, although losing Martinez would be no loss for this state. Useless RINO comes to mind when I think of Martinez, so not likely that Jeb will be running for the Senate any time soon.

I wish him and his family well. :0)

Evan Bayh in Indiana did it recently, but I think it was a matter of staying in circulation for a presidential run in his case. Personally I feel the next logical step would be the Whitehouse for a governor of a big state. Becoming a senator would be a step down for Jeb Bush in my opinion.

Agreed. We do too. That's just plain old nasty to use the same towel more than once. Gross!

The right "Bush" was elected President.

I wish Jeb Bush well, and I'm so glad he gets to have a life now. He's more than earned some relaxation and fun. He's shepharded Florida through many harsh storms. And done well for Floridians.

Jeb Bush himself blamed his brother.

If I remember correctly, Johnny Carson once said...something like..after you shower or bathe you are clean. If you are clean, why would you need a clean towel for the next shower?

We were brought up..face towel... body towel...Very important.
