In spite of this, we have record low unemployment. Apparently Americans are finding jobs that are better than what the illegal aliens are doing.
How do you explain this?
There's a whole bunch of people that I see on a regular basis at work that don't have to work anymore - but they still get paid! They have all found out about the "Disability Train". Apparently, there's legions of doctors and lawyers that enable these people to collect their "free" paychecks. If you ask them what their disability is, invariably it's a bad back, bi-polar disorder, nerve damage in their feet, etc - stuff you can't see & pretty much have to take the patient's word for the "pain" they are feeling.
These are able-bodied people that go out & about, doing whatever they want - but for some reason - are able to get a monthly check for some "disability" that doesn't keep them from shopping & having a great old time. These people are no longer looking for jobs & are therefore, not in the statistics of the unemployed.
To me - if you can drive a car, walk up & down the street, shop until you drop, read the newspaper & talk on the phone to your friends all day - you certainly should be capable of "working".
How do you explain this?
It is probably a lie, like many other government statistics. That is why the government controls the issuing of statistics, so that they can lie about it. Look at the bogus make believe inflation rate numbers. 2% my ass. That's why crappy little bungalows are now worth 1/2 a million dollars? I don't think so.
Among other things the government employment figures don't inlcude people who have stopped loooking for work or have been unemployed for a certain amount of time. That's a pretty big hole. How is section 8 (means tested) housing expense going up and up and up if everyone who wants work is working.
The thousands, maybe millions, of self employed American landscapers, home cleaners, nannies, builders, etc. AS YOU know do not appear on the unemployment rolls when they are taken out by cheap illegal labor doing those jobs now.
All areas of the country are not at LOW unemployment. My area is 19%.
What we have is an oversupply of labor, making the unemployment rate low. Supply and demand.

You DO recall the long lines of people who were seeking employment at Swift & Co plants immediately after the raids?
By the way--as construction folds up like a cardboard box, there will be plenty of people available to replace the illegals.
If everything is so wonderful, why am I constantly being asked to give, give, give to the poor (mostly illegals) in our county, one of the richest in the nation? If everything is so wonderful, why are my property taxes sky-high to provide housing to the poor (mostly illegals)?
Why do you justify our laws being mocked and broken? What do you gain from the illegals?
Dog Gone, "jobs that are better than what the illegal aliens are doing" are not necessarily better than jobs that they would be doing if the illegals were not here.
Downward pressure on wages at the bottom will cause downward pressure on wages a rung or two up.

I got laid off Friday. It was slow for the last month at work. Probable will not do the unemployment thing, but I am looking. BTW... boss did keep 4 illegals for some reason. Wonder why?

I'm just curious...unemployment benefits last what, 6 months? What are the statistics for the unemployed beyond that time and how are those stats collected?
