Gee, have a drink or something.

This film and its subject matter have been discussed many times before on Free Republic, and it's a very special Christmas story.

Does anyone remember an OLD Reader's Digest story, "Truce in the Forest" or something with that title? I think it takes place in France, in maybe WWII, where the French family is hiding some American soldiers. Then the Germans come in, discover the Americans, but the wife tells them not to fight, but eat dinner together.

Thank you for posting the review here. FR is a forum where I got my news, etc., and comments from people who I consider share my values, etc. Having a review of a good movie that is related to my faith and political views is always good.

This particular movie, Joyeoux Noel is special. The topic (opposing sides in WWI, but adhered to a same religion), the time (Christmas), and the context (WoT) makes it very important movie.

It's also noteworthy that postings about movie review, have been a common practise in FR since very long. That's how I knew that Happy Feet was a enviromentalist movie wrapped in cute dancing penguins. Or the Nativity Story is not a wacko liberal Christian movie that tries to 'humanize' St. Mary and St. Joseph.

Merry Christmas!

I plan on seeing the movie. The only question is, will it be able to match the classic telling of the story? I'm referring, of cours, to the rock video for Paul McCartney's Pipes of Peace.

I remember this story and it was made into a television show for Playhouse 90 or some such. I remember it took place during WWII. I don't think I have ever heard of the WWI incident. Thanks for posting it though, I will be on the look out for this movie.

I am actually watching this film right as we speak. Thought it was wonderful, and wanted to share the link with all of you.

It is available in full at youtube here with English subtitles for the French and German dialogue. You obviously have British dialogue.

I am not sure of the legality of this youtube posting of the movie. I own the dvd, but for some reason never ended up watching it.

For only the pivotal singing moment, you can see it here.

Also Sainsbury put together this add this year to support the British legion (supporting British war veterans and their families):

Merry Christmas to all.

Cheers from Europe.
