Expand students' graduation options through creative partnerships with community colleges in career and technical fields and with alternative schools

In a way that is what community colleges and businesses do now when they offer remedial classes. But why become a "partner" with the dysfunctional high schools that screwed up in the first place?

Do you agree or disagree that a high school diploma will be necessary to compete in the 21st century?

Absolutely not. As was pointed out earlier on this thread, the Amish compete quite well without high school diplomas. Most new companies fail within three years of startup but Amish businesses have about a four percent failure rate in the first ten years.

Do you think some individualized help might enable some of these students to succeed?

You got that right. But the best "individualized help" is called "home schooling".

I'm late to this thread, but I am curious to know what public education our Presidents of the 19th century had before college.

Do you agree that a high school diploma is necessary for success in the 21st century? Or the equivalent, I won't quibble with that.

I would happily grant that the Amish do such a good job of educating their populace that their 8th grade education is the equivalent of a high school diploma -- or even better.

But we public school teachers do not teach Amish children with their strong work ethic and family support and lack of outside media influences.

So I'll ask you also. Do you think that to be successful in the 21st century, adults need a high school diploma or the equivalent education?(superior home-school education, GED or private school)

It is ABSOLUTELY ABHORANT that the NEA would suggest herding 19 to 21 years olds into **compulsory***and **mandatory** "Graduation Centers".

Graduation Centers? The better term is NEA prisons.

The NEA's own words on it own website condemns them for the fascist tyrants that they really are.

No salt, no problem!!!!

Th closest class to anything technical in my all girl college prep HS was typing :) We had a program whereby we could earn college credits in English, and French from Syracuse University.

Require a high School diploma or GED for a driver's license and car ownership. That would put most drop-outs back into the seats.

A few years ago, I remember a politician saying that the NEA was a terrorist organization. Do you remember that? Who said that? What happened to that politician?

We already have community colleges that run GED programs and remedial courses of all kinds. In my county, the GED courses are FREE. These programs are doing a wonderful job of turning government school illiterates and innmuerates into educationally functional adults.

Herding 19 to 21 year olds into mandatory and compulsory NEA "graduation centers" is IMPRISONMENT.

Sorry to say, but I don't recall that, but it's probably a safe bet he had a "D" after his name, because anyone with an "R" saying that would have been tarred and feathered in headlines across the nation.

Good point!

And,,,how is imprisoning 19 to 21 year olds in NEA "Graduation Centers" going to improve an already 13 year long failure?

They have plainly revealed themselves to be anti-freedom fascists. This proposal to imprison 19 to 21 year olds in its "Graduation Centers" is proof of that.

Of course the NEA would get to control the ideological content of the GED.

They've got it backwards. To improve education for all, let the ones who don't want to be there leave, whatever their age. Let the cops handle it after that.

>>>On November 15, 2004, Rod Paige announced his resignation after overseeing the President's education agenda for four years. <<<<

I wonder if I can entice this man to move to my state and run for governor? Nah, he sounds too smart for that.

More union dues for the NEA. That is the bottom line.

And,,,they are willing to enslave and imprison 19 to 21 year olds in their "graduation centers" to do it.

These people are evil.
