A citizens' group in Berlin turned out this week for a candlelight vigil to protest plans for a new mosque in their neighborhood. It will be the first to be built in the former East Berlin, where almost no Muslims live -- but no one can quite explain why it shouldn't be there.
At the end of a rundown suburban street lined with bare trees and flaking apartment facades, a small group of people hold candles or colored Glo-sticks. A few hold signs -- "Democracy yes! Caliphate no!" -- and some carry German flags.
"The mosque is supposed to go up right here," says Günter Bronner, a blustery white-haired man with glasses pushed up on his forehead who's lived in the neighborhood for 42 years. He points to a drab piece of land at the end of the street where a defunct sauerkraut factory stands. "They want to have a minaret with a muezzin who gives the call to prayer five times a day. Can you imagine? Five times a day over our rooftops."
Officials gave the go-ahead last Friday for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association to build a new mosque in Heinersdorf, an eastern neighborhood of Berlin where very few Muslims live. It will be the first mosque on the once-Communist eastern side of the city, and an organization of locals turned out Wednesday to protest. "It was pretty brazen to hand this (approval) to us as a Christmas present," quipped Joachim Swietlik, head of the citizens' group, who claims that 90 percent of Heinersdorf doesn't want the mosque.
The row highlights a Europe-wide debate about the integration of Muslims, ranging from calls for improved schooling and language teaching and tougher tests for immigrants to a discussion about whether veils and headscarves hinder the integration of Muslim women.

At least they have some real reason to fear the PC police - the PC police in Europe can put you in jail if you make them mad.
They can't do that here in America, yet. But they're working on it.

"Didn't Germany prohibit Scientology?"
I don't know if they are verbotten, but I know the German guvmint has
tried to place strictures on Scientology.
I'm no fan of Scientology (read too many exposes while living in
Southern California).
But it makes sense to go after Scientology and let Islam alone.
I don't know of any cases of Scientologists sawing off heads from
screaming infidels.
Billions of them that will not ever accept Christianity and will do everything they can to destroy it. It is that simple.
Western societies should end the DOLE, wait for them to go crazy then EXTRACT them to the nearest sand dune. Imagin paying people to do nothing but tear down your society?? (Yes I know its happening here too)
All religions are equal. Apparently some are more equal than others. When people wake up to the reality of Islam as a POLITICAL system of rule, it will be too late.
I keep telling everyone I know that, I wish more people would understand it.
They're building them all over the US, too, in rural areas that have no Muslims, other than perhaps a Pakistani gas station owner, at most. They are being funded by Saudi money.
This is not just a European problem. It is a way the Muslims are setting the stage for their takeover, and we are fools if we think it couldn't happen here.
They are planning to set up specially trained units called the A.O.U. or Anti Offense Units to prevent the citizenry of this country from offending the new settlers from Islamic countries.
"If a resident or citizen is caught "Offending" our new freinds, then after their first incident they will be sent to a special A.O.T.F. (Anti Offense Training Facility)to be taught respect for our new freinds." Said Pelosi last Tuesday at a press conference held at her residence. When questioned about punishment for a second or third offence there was no response from the incomming leader of the free world.
