:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Fighting Jihad: Strategic Thinking Needed
-Full Story-

The United States of America has some of the smartest leaders in government, military, and business in the world. Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

Thanks I am doing ok.

We had an ice storm for a few days here which just about crippled this small town. Made me reconsider whether I have enough emergency supplies on hand. My boss and her husband went to the market during this situation and found the shelves empty.

Everyone should take heed..........in the event of an emergency there probably will be no one to help. We will be on our own.

Time to recheck supplies.

I have to wonder why the airlines are still on red alert. It really gives me no comfort knowing the mucky muck PTB are afraid to lower both that and the overall yellow alert.

I agree, in a major emergency stove shelves would be empty in no time flat. If someone is a distance from the store (30 minute drive) than that is even more time for the "locals" to empty the shelves. Nothing better than a well stocked pantry.

Islamist Sites Post Zawahiri Video

Dubai, 25 Jan. 2007 - A video message by al-Qaeda No.2 Ayman al-Zawahiri appeared on Islamist sites on Thursday, almost 24 hours after the footage had been posted on the webpages of several US intelligence service-linked research institutions. Observers have noted how this marks the first time that video footage purportedly produced by al-Qaeda has receivied its initial public airing through channels other than the Islamist sites and the Dubai-based statellite television network, al-Jazeera.

The appearance of al-Zawhari's latest video message on the sites of the US anti-terrorism think tank signals a breakthrough by Washington's intelligence agencies, most participants to on-line chat forums on several Islamist sites surveyed by Adnkronos International (AKI) believe.

In particular the Islamist site forum members suspect that American intelligence has infiltrated the channels used by al-Qaeda to deliver the video material to al-Jazeera which has been Osama bin-Laden's terror network's preferred media outlet.

I wonder what the scientist was working on before he died.

SHC seeks govt position on Al Qaeda detainee
January 26, 2007 Friday Muharram 06, 1428

KARACHI, Jan 25: A Sindh High Court division bench on Thursday sought official comments on the reported handing over of Al Qaeda leader Khalid Mohammad Shaikh and three of his relatives to the United States.

Petitioner Mariam alleged that her brother, Khalid Mohammad Shaikh, son Abdul Karim and sons-in-law Abdul Qadir and Ramzi bin Shibh were taken into custody and handed over to the US authorities.

The Inspector-General of Sindh Police submitted his report saying that the detainees were neither arrested nor detained nor transferred abroad by the provincial police.

The petitioner’s counsel, Ghulam Qadir Jatoi, produced a newspaper clipping quoting US President George Bush as claiming that Khalid, mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, was among the 14 Al Qaeda terrorists transferred to the US custody.

The bench, comprising Justices Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Sain Ali Dino Metlo, asked Additional Advocate-General Dr Qazi Khalid Ali and federal government standing counsel Sofia Shah to explain the official position with regard to the detainees, and adjourned further hearing to a date in office.

Bomb Scare In Downtown Birmingham
Thursday, Jan 25, 2007 - 04:56 PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A suspicious package was reported near the UAB campus at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday evening. Within minutes, members of the FBI, ATF, Birmingham and UAB police, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene. Police cordoned off four city blocks, from 14th St. South at 10th and 11th Avenues South, and kept UAB students out of the area for several hours.

A member of the bomb squad in protective gear walked into a building on the corner of 13th Street and 11th Avenue South to test for possible chemical or biological elements. After determining that the package was not a Haz-Mat issue, they returned to the scene to destroy the package.

Police said the package was made to imitate an explosive device. No arrests have been made at this time.

UPDATE on previously posted news:

Arrested Kosovo Albanian al-Qaeda mole
January 17, 2007

Kosovo Albanian that was arrested last month by the Austrian authorities at a Vienna Schwechat International Airport is a sought out intermediary for terror organizations across Europe and is in service of al-Qaeda, says Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.

Dodu L. is a 55 year old Kosovo Albanian with combat experience acquired during terror attacks on Kosovo Serbs DURING 1990S. In December of 2007, he was to detonate 2 bombs inside Montenegro parliament in a plot that involves 12 other ethnic Albanians, some of them US citizens.

As the bombing plot folded, 12 ethnic Albanians in Montenegro have been arrested while Dodu L. managed to escape Montenegro and on a connecting flight in Vienna was arrested by the Austrian authorities. Kronen Zeitung says that the bomber, Dodu L. was on a trip to the USA.

" Outwardly Dodu L was calm... the more thorough examination caused the man to react suddenly nervous. To the policemen it became clear why: The 55-year old was on the terror list of the most wanted!" writes Kronen Zeitung.

"Around Dodu L. is a rope pulling him between USA and Montenegro. According to insiders this fighter is in demand intermediary for terror organizations - such as the deliverers of messages for entire Europe," writes Kronen.

According to Kronen Zeitung, Dodu L. was an al-Qaeda member who was eventually recruited, with promises of money, to be a "mole" for the CIA inside al-Qaeda. Kronen Zeitung is not clear whether the Kosovo Albanian was a "mole" inside al-Qaeda operation in Kosovo or throughout Europe. "This explains also why the US Government wants to absolutely prevent his extradition to Montenegro," concluded Kronen Zeitung.
