Dallas to promote "Gay-friendly tourism"
Washington Post ^ | January 7, 2007

Dallas, long known as a Baptist stronghold and home of Stetson-wearing business types, is touting a new image: gay travel destination. The city has joined other locations, such as Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale, in actively reaching out to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender visitors.

"Our secret is out," says a page at www.dallascvb.com, the city's official tourism Web site. The page lists venues of special appeal to gay travelers, including Oak Lawn, a neighborhood with a predominantly gay population, bars, museums and more than 20 gay-friendly hotels.

Geez! I live in a suburb north of Dallas and even I avoid going there at all costs.
The Oak Lawn area has always been a mecca for gays, nothing new there.

Just don't live in the city limits of Dallas and you'll be OK.
It's really a great area as long as you stick to the northern part of the city or the northern suburbs.

Dallas is a mess. The city govt can't manage the city due to certain special interest groups perpetually attempting power grabs, and ultimately, nothing gets done. I moved to Arlington 7 yrs ago and we don't have these problems. I worry that Dallas will become the new New Orleans.

And you're right, Dallas is no tourist destination. Although, I will say that the shopping is pretty good. The girls love that... I suppose the target of this campaign will as well.

My husband is in north Dallas and I think that is where we will be settling. He may have to work downtown too, so we will see.

People are so friendly and polite there. He had to go to a meeting in the DC area and he could tell he was back out east because people weren't quite as mannerly.

"Our secret is out,"

Not if you visit Dallas very often it's always been known for gay festivities especially around the 'Design District' near the market center.

And how they got rich is sometimes a mystery.

We have quite a few gay friends, and the majority of them are educated professionals or business owners.

Guess now we know why TO behaves as he does. :)

TO?

Tom Oliphant?

Terrell Owens?

Ted Olson?

Lots of "T.O.'s" out there.

Meanwhile, the WaPo's stable of gay-friendly and/or "out" writers (some 75% of the NYT's front-page editors are gay or bi, sez one of them) like to put out stuff like that just to P.O. conservative Texans. It's as if I wrote an article "proving" that black Washingtonians are 60% more conservative than the WaPo's screed-scribblers. Which may or may not be true, but may very well be -- issue by issue, blacks are pretty conservative socially, which is why liberals work so hard to divide them from the hated "them" -- the Southern social conservatives who are white.

Look on the bright side. The fact that a WaPo regurgitorialist felt the urge to emit a spasm like this, suggests that all is not going quite as well as a Marxist regurgitorialist might like.
