I wonder if ICE will really check these idiots out...

If Pizza Patron wishes to accept foreign currency, I have no problem with it. If they decide they won't take American currency, or if somebody tries to force all businesses to accept foreign money, I would object strongly.
A private business has made a business decision that doesn't hurt anybody who chooses not to participate. Leave them alone.

If it gets them more business, why not? I don't think this is a political decision, I think it's a business gamble.

I cannot see how they will collect that many pesos, the illegals are paid in dollars.
Don't think ICE will bother though.

I've paid for goods and services in Japan with good 'ol American dollars. Likewise England, Italy, France, etc etc etc...
If a shop agrees to beads or wampum so be it....
I personally think the insult is Mexicans taking over Pizza. Refried beans on a thin crust wouldn't do it for me....JMO.

Gotta say, Doc, I'm with the camp that says they can take whatever form of payment they want. As long as they are accounting for their transactions properly and paying all their taxes (so I don't have to pay them, like I do for the guy across the street who pretends to make rain gutters but really sells drugs for a living), I have no problem.
Might be smart of ICE to scrutinize their activities (in a constitutionally permissible manner), but I don't live in that dream world where such a thing would actually happen.

The decision was made by Pizza Patron because many of their customers have just returned from Mexico following the Christmas Vacation, and still have pesos left.
It brings them business, and helps their customers. I really don't know what the big deal is. BTW, they said the Peso Promotion is for a limited time, but depending on it's success, they may extend it.
When I return from Europe, I always get stuck with Euros b/c banks will only exchange paper money, not the Euro coins. If little Caesar's took Euro's I'd be dumping them there.

My wife and I stopped in a restaurant in Strasbourg (Fr) and when we learned they didn't take charge cards, paid with what we had in our wallets - I mixture of dollar bills and Deutschemarks. We got our change in francs from a courteous, smiling waiter.
Took me half an hour to figure out he'd given us exactly the correct amount!
I don't have a bit of problem with Peso Patron taking whatever currency they wish.
They sure have got lousy timing, though!

Having grown up in Northern Vermont / New Hampshire, where many places take Canadian money (at a somewhat poorer exchange than someone would get at a bank, admittedly), I don't get why this is such a huge deal. Should be up to the business owner, IMO.

American citizens SHOULD BOYCOTT this chain. The clown thinks he has a competitive edge over his rivals buy allowing foreign currency to purchase his products...simple let him move his entire chain to Mexico.
BOYCOTT!!!!!

Here's my question: If someone paid in counterfeit pesos, would it be illegal? Would there be any recourse since the only legal tender in the United States is dollars?
To: DocFarmer
When I traveled, I saw money vendors all over. You get off the plane and there are guys trying to get your American dollar. Most shops will take American dollars. Just make sure you are getting a good rate.
To: DocFarmer
Do counterfeiting laws apply if one tries to pass the Bush Peso?
To: DocFarmer
Now that is good alliteration.

If they can make more money this way, it's perfectly sensible. By the way, most of the money will come from tourists or people working on both sides of the border, or do you expect the illegal immigrants to illegally go back for more pesos?
Anyway, in every Burger King on this planet, you can always pay with US dollars. I already considered nailing our franchise owner's cat to his door because of that afront, but then I rather took two Big Kings and fries.

Pizza Padron is the losers.
They have to convert the pesos into dollars for tax, salary purposes.
Let'm have at it.

The bars in Bellingham and Sumas have taken a good deal of my Canuckistani zlotniks in exchange for watery beer in plastic pitchers.
They actually took it at face value!
I suppose one could say that they gave me pretend beer in exchange for pretend money. ;^)
I have also had $US cheerfully accepted in Mexico - this is not a problem no matter how you slice the pizza!
