Nuclear Blast on TV's '24' Causes Fallout for Fox (PC crybaby alert)
ABC News ^ | 1/15/07

"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?

"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."

Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

"I only wish Fox had not put "24" up against the Golden Globes. If they are trying to educate Americans, then they need ratings to do it. The Globes slaughtered "24" in the ratings (per Drudge)"

I thought Drudge's headline meant that 24 was shut out of winning any awards.

And leave it to the TV critic to deliver the real zinger. Bianculli believes Fox is more manipulative with its product placement than anything else. "In CTU headquarters — which is information central — they are always watching Fox News," Biancilli said. "Now that is ridiculous."

LOL. And the writer complains that the show is propoganda and is not surprised it's on Fox. Surprisingly enough though, the reporter contradicts himself and details how ABC and some other networks showed movies which feature nuclear bombs. Of course, those weren't propoganda, just entertainment, something Hollyweird can't admit about "24".

The notion of 'going down a road we can't turn back from' was kinda silly. If that were true, Muslims would have been in detention facilities years ago, just like the Japanese during WWII.

That's how I saw it as well....and then later on he does do what's needed by offing Curtis (much to his own personal terror over it).

"Oh, and once they stated that line about FOX having a political propaganda, the article lost all credibility."

I can't believe they refuse to admit the obvious. FOX has an agenda... one guiding principle, make money. FOX would give us 24 hours of nothing but The 3 Stooges if it would boost ratings. FOX has decided having a conservative lean will get them the most viewers. They're right.

ABC? What no mention of Path to 9/11? I guess they are back on the PC plantation.

ABC is just mad that there may be 4 more blasts this season.

24 fans understand the purpose. It was an eye-opener to Islamist terrorism.

Perhaps if ABC and the rest of the MSM is so concerned about reality, they could show the Twin Towers falling..........but of course that might just feed American's un-justified distrust of Arabs and other CRIMINALS (like the Mexicans, perhaps) who are in our country NOW.

Actually, rather telling when you think about it. America and its junkie like addition to entertainment and celebrity worship cannot see the truth unfolding in front of it.

.....can't have the sheeple seeing what might happen if we lose the war, can we?......

More to the point, can't have the sheeple see the cowardice and vacillation of those who constantly try to appease.....

A number of the characters portray the lefties in a very bad light.

Antiwar is Anti America

So how come Jericho was allowed to have a nuclear blast? Oh that's right - they're on NBC.

Television shows like '24' also reinforce stereotypes about Arabs, he said, and in this episode connections are drawn between terrorism, Arabs and nuclear war. With the U.S. wrestling with Iran over its nuclear capabilities, these associations are dangerous, he said.

Yeah, they might give people the right idea.

This guy needs to quit worrying about us. We can handle it quite well. After all, its just a TV show. Too close to the truth for him, I guess.
