Nuclear Blast on TV's '24' Causes Fallout for Fox (PC crybaby alert)
ABC News ^ | 1/15/07

Posted on 01/16/2007 6:06:00 AM PST by rintense

"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?

"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."

Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

Not merely a non-sequitur but patently false. The plot so far is as messy as the real world, where there are muslims on our side (like the detained lobbyist tipping of the FBI about the other nukes), "reformed" terrorists, fifth-columnists in law enforcement and a loyal immigrant getting arrested while his "American" son works with the terrorists.

It's pretty obvious that the commentator is assumning that the reader didn't see the show.

CBS, actually. And Jericho is turning into a pretty good show. I fear that the culprits will be American terrorists though.

Fox loving every minute of this. They hyped the show, Drudge ran with a headline and flashing sirens......all part of the plan.

I liked the part in the article where some one speculated this might give terrorists ideas.

I've never watched the show, other than maybe 15 minutes of one episode here and there.

When it first debuted I assumed it would be another liberal talkpiece but it appears I'm wrong.

My observation was color blind. The way he pandered to the Terrorists was more along the lines of what I was thinking.

UTTER RUBBISH!

The protests are pure hypocracy.

In the pre-cable days, one network did a pretend NUCLEAR POWER PLANT MELT DOWN! simulated tv show.

They literally did it "ala war of the worlds".

This was back when the hippies were protesting nuclear power and the china syndrome propaganda movie was out.

As a non-watcher of this show, what did the US do after LA was bombed? Or was it the end of the episode?

can't have the sheeple seeing what might happen if we lose the war, can we?

You nailed it!

What war? "There is no threat", said fat Moore!

like the time Jack is torturing a guy and he decides the suspect has no more information because he "sees it in his eyes", then his Islamic traitor ally sticks a knife in the guy's kneecap and the guy starts spilling info. In other words, TORTURE WORKED!

Jack DOES NOT torture. McCain wouldn't like that. Jack just aggressively encourages.

LOL

he said, and in this episode connections are drawn between terrorism, Arabs and nuclear war.

Gee, I can't imagine where the producers would have possibly gotten that idea!

The new President on "24" has to be a democrat.

And his sister is an ACLU lawyer.
