It seems like this was more poor judgement than anything.

If he was just a regular guy, they would have given him a colostomy bag and everything would have been fine. But they tried to do something special for their great leader.

There's not enough information to judge. I'm just a regular guy, had the same surgery with no colostomy, and I had no complications. About a third of my colon is missing, but I don't miss it.

Age may be a factor in this case, but the initial procedure wasn't anything special.

I expect there were very few alternatives to the doctors doing the work.
Dictators are not noted for giving the best orders in any given circumstance.
Dictators are, however, generally successful in having their orders followed.
