Cheney daughter: Clinton lacks Iraq 'spine'

WASHINGTON - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter accused Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of lacking "spine" on Iraq on Tuesday, three days after the New York Democrat launched her bid for the White House.

"Anyone who has watched her remarkable trajectory can have no doubt that she'll do whatever it takes to win the presidency. I wish she felt the same way about the war," Liz Cheney, a former deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, said in an opinion article in The Washington Post.

Cheney took aim at both Republican and Democratic opponents of the war, warning that retreating from Iraq would hurt the United States in the broader war against terrorism and that any restrictions on the U.S. troop presence would aid terrorists.

But Cheney's attack on Clinton was particularly pointed, especially for such an early stage in the 2008 presidential campaign.

"I suppose Hillary Clinton's announcement was a sign of progress. In 2007, a woman can run for president and show the same level of courage and conviction about this war of her male colleagues have," Cheney wrote. "Steel in the spine? Not so much."

Clinton responds

Clinton, who aims to become the first woman elected U.S. president, dismissed Cheney's criticisms during an interview on CNN.

"They've been dead wrong. They've been wrong for the last years. They've been wrong on the war. They've been wrong in the way they've alienated the rest of the world," Clinton said.

And they were against Bush months before 9/11. The Swedish president of the EU was making snide remarks when Bush made his first trip to Europe in the summer of 2001. THEIR candidate, Gore, a EU weenie, had not won. They were really unhappy and so they early characterized the new President and his administration as unworthy of their respect.

If Hillary had a spine, she'd've suffered whiplash from her Iraq reversals.

That was the direct result of the way the Dems and the lMSM in this country dissed President Bush...right from the get-go! Even BJ refused to gracefully leave the world stage--ala that ridiculus grand-standing farewell party at Andrews AFB at the same time that the new POTUS and the rest of the country were to enjoy the inaugural parade. There was so much disrespect and open disdain on the part of the left (the libs/Demoncrats, et al.) for the new POTUS--Bush never stood a chance in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Especially since she had access to the same studies and reports that her rapist husband authorized and handed on to President Bush, which clearly stated the WMDs the US Gov. believed Iraq to possess, or at least classified as "unaccounted for."

Notice how fast the lamestream media gave Hillary the floor for a rebuttal to wht..one critical article? We will be seeing this kind of point counterpoint for the next two years. The media is on Clinton's side. The CNN debunking the Obama madrassas story? Meredith Viera asking very tough questions of Obama last week? The witch has her minions in the media lined up.

The dems ascension makes it easier for Bush to have a free hand in the ME these next 18 months. Our allies know the window is closing and will be begging him to neutralize Iran's nuclear bomb making ability before he leaves. The order has probably already been signed off by Saudi and company.

I am not sure Hillary's response to the war is a lack of spine.

IMO if the polls told Hillary to back the war to get elected, she would be backing it.

I believe her response is a lack of patriotism, love for America, support for the troops,an effort to get votes,.

IMO we really have no way to make a proper judgement of why Hillary says anything because we cannot see the nefarious inner working of her mind. She has no principles ,no beliefs that cannot be changed according to what it takes to get her elected.

Her search is for power and anything such as truth or scruples that stand in her way will be wiped away with the incoming tide.

"Every nation has to either be with us, or against us. Those who harbor terrorists, or who finance them, are going to pay a price."

"The hard fact is that so long as Saddam remains in power, he threatens the well-being of his people, the peace of his region, the security of the world.
The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people."
