Mayors' Summit on Illegal Arms Draws Fire From Gun Rights Group
CNS News ^ | January 24, 2007 | Randy Hall

More than 50 mayors gathered in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday for a national summit "to discuss the issue of illegal guns plaguing American cities." However, a gun rights group dismissed the conference as "all rhetoric" and presenting "no real solutions" to violent crime in America.

During its day-long event, the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition (MAIG) "discussed the importance of gun trace data, joint lobbying against harmful federal legislation, cutting-edge political strategies and the unique initiatives being undertaken by mayors across the country on this issue," the group said in a news release.

The mayors also announced the creation of "a bi-partisan Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns," which is to be led by Reps. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Peter King (R-N.Y.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.).

Not a word about what to do about the CRIMINALS.

I don't think anyone has ever seen a gun, legal or illegal get up and just shoot someone by itself.

Britain, Australia top U.S. in violent crime. Rates Down Under (Australia) increase despite strict gun-control measures

Geez. I just can't stock up fast enough. This is going to be a very frustrating 2, or 6, or 10 years.

The Dems realized that gun-control was poisen for them, so they shut up about it to get elected. Now that they have control of Congress they can't help themselves. They couldn't even wait a month before trotting out scads of new gun-control schemes. If they keep it up they will lose big in 2008.

Career politicians know only too well that nothing deflects attention from their own dishonesty and ineffectuality like standing up in a position of prominence and screaming at the top of their lungs about a great deal of utter phony baloney.

They are barking up the wrong tree. Yes, guns should not be allowed in the hands of kids (IMO) just like we tell them that they cannot drink, drive a car, enlist or vote until they reach a certain age. However, they will not address the issues that are the problem and that is out of control kids, ghetto culture, drug and alcohol abuse and poverty.

Solve those and people will have less of a need to go bust a cap in someone's ass.....

Not to mention locking up criminals.

I just about had a heart attack about the media using the phrase "gun rights group" instead of "eeeeevil gun lobby" till I saw it was CNSNews. I thought it was CNN!

We just had a shooting in Philadelphia last eve. A female police officer had a fight with her 16 year old son. They struggled over her weapon and it discharged right into his head. It has been called a tragic accident. Philadelphia is a damned mess.

They really shouldn't bunch up like that.

Creates a target-rich environment.

The NRA ran a great ad that highlighted Bill Clinton's quotes from his book about how he lost Congress in 1994 due to the assault-weapons ban. Great ad, wish I could find it.

All of the cruise missiles we expended in Iraq getting rid of totalitarian bureaucrats, and now when the Iraqis have an excellent opportunity to return the favor and knock off a whole bunch of our tyrants at one go what do they do? Nothing, Do then send even one our way? No. The selfish ungrateful bastards just fight amongst themselves and leave our totalitarian bureaucrats to make our lives miserable.

Not necessarily. The most virulent anti-gunner in the House is Carolyn McCarthy (D. NY.) She was elected on a single issue - gun control. So in both left coasts gun control is a winning issue. (Especially in the liberal anus of the country, NYC and surrounds)

I had my first gun (.22 single shot) at age 7. Oddly enough (oddly according to liberal logic anyway) it never told me to go shoot anyone.

Geez. I just can't stock up fast enough.

I just picked up a S&W M 642 last Saturday and I'm expecting a new Walther P22 target shortly. Then I'm going to settle down to some serious acquisitions. I also expect to start doubling my ammo supplies. That's going to be tougher. Ammo is going UP in price. At least for SHTF stuff. I don't have the patience to reload anymore. I prefer to buy in bulk.

Philadelphia is a damned mess.

It seems it has ALWAYS been thus. In the 1970's I read a book (nonfiction) called City Police and it was all about Philly and the ugly realities of those mean streets. IIRC it was mandatory reading for my sociology class.

I think Hugin meant that the RATs will lose BIG on the national level. But FIRST the sleepers must awaken as they did in the 2000 squeaker! That means West-By-God Virginia has to realize that hunting will be extinct under the RATs and how will those poor families feed their kids then?

Also all the state level activists who pushed through CCW and castle doctrine laws at the state have GOT to get off the dime and start all over again for the nation's very survival.
