Huckabee blurs Bush, Clinton partisan lines (Huckabee bashes Bush)
MSNBC ^ | 29 JANUARY 2007 | AP

Posted on 01/29/2007 9:18:39 AM PST by Extremely Extreme Extremist

Blurring the traditional lines of partisanship, conservative Mike Huckabee launched his bid for the Republican presidential nomination with a swipe at President Bush and a friendly nod to fellow Arkansan Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The former Arkansas governor assigned Bush some of the blame for failing to deliver on a 2000 campaign promise to be “a uniter, not a divider” and ease polarization in Washington.

I for one am sick and tired of this crap. Bush has reached out - I mean really reached out (including signing some of their putrid legislation) to the Democrats and still gets crapped on in return.

Stick a fork in Huckabee, his candidacy is over before it has begun.

then he's not really "...conservative Mike Huckabee..."

He's just another spineless RINO sucking up to the MSM.

Badmouthing President Bush won't win any GOP primaries.

That hard core of one-third of Americans who approve President Bush day in, day out? We're the GOP primary voters, moron, not the tools who paid money to see I Heart Huckabees in the theater - who appear to be the demographic Mikey is pandering to.

I mean, it's mind-boggling. Bush congratulated Pelosi when she became Speaker. He has co-signed Ted Kennedy's education bill, signed the Medicare boondoggle, CFR. He has never criticized Democrats personally and have always tried to work with them.

Huckabee is simply a fool. The last thing conservatives need is yet another Republican who'll promise "bipartisanship" and try to work with the Democrats. Huckabee is also a nanny-stater, pro-illegal alien, and have expanded public health and education. He is NOT a conservative.

Agreed. I'm surprised he comes out with this stuff when his only real chance at nomination is to fill the hard, tough-talking conservative void left by the big guys, Romney, Giuliani and McCain. You can't get those votes if you're going on television proclaiming that Bill Clinton "embodies the American dream."

I didnt see Huckabee's whole appearance on the Daily Show recently but I got the impression he was trying to make nice with Jon Stewart. That is NOT what we need in a nominee or a leader. In the few moments I saw the show, I didn't hear Huckabee offer one word of defense of GWB when Stewart was saying he was dumb, etc.

He's too much a big-government "conservative" anyway.

What happened to conservatism? Conservatism used to be of the Reagan, and later, Gingrich, mold. Fiscal AND social conservative, fairly libertarian approach to government regulation, and pro defense.

Seems these days the conservative movement has become social conservative, but a pantywaist socialist otherwise, and as some would say, "that dog don't hunt."

Politicians who ran against Bush in 2006 won. Politicians who closely identified with Bush in 2006 lost. The smart money right now, and the increasing consensus among the electorate, says stick it to Bush to increase your stature among the electorate.

This may upset 'do or die' Freepers, but the problem with 'do or die' and 'all or nothing' is that you have a decent chance of 'die' and getting 'nothing.'

I'll take a true leader like Bush any day. At least he has the courage to stand up for what he believes in.

Bush wants to fight and win the struggle against radical Islam.

The Democrats, Liberals, and sorry to say, some unfaithful Republicans would rather embrace or ignore radical Islam.

Yet, because Bush will not convert to Islam, he is divisive.

I reject the 'electorate as stupid' mentality. They weren't smart when they elected Dubya and the GOP in 2000, 2002, and 2004, and suddenly became stupid in 2006.

That's a strange worldview and it makes no sense.

If the GOP performed poorly it's because they didn't convince enough voters to support them. This has nothing to do with stupidity. If a majority is taking a poor course of action, it's incumbent on us to convince them we are right. Indeed, if they are stupid, it should be easy to convince them, right?

The president enjoys low popularity these days, with no signs of life and no signs of bouncing back.

In other words, plenty of GOPers are alienated from the President, too. They get to vote in the primaries. I doubt Huckabee will do well in the primaries for a variety of reasons, but you can't dismiss the power of crapping on Bush for political gain. Look at McCain, who has been a pest for the President since 2000 and who enjoys a strong showing in GOP primaries.

If the GOP performed poorly it's because they didn't convince enough voters to support them.

People overwhelmingly support the war. The problem is that the GOP has done a horrible job in defending it, and has let the MSM/Dims define them, causing RINOs like Hagel, Brownback, and Huckabee to have second thoughts. That's partly why the GOP lost the mid-terms.

Voters hate weakness in elected officials. Huckabee is your typical finger in the wind politician. Criticizing Bush may win him more guest-shots on the Sunday morning talk shows and fawning NY Times coverage, but it'll turn off conservatives.

I agree with everything you wrote, except "People overwhelmingly support the war." The support for the war is low, largely because of a lack of confidence in Dubya's leadership and decision-making in the execution of the war. I don't think there is overwhelming support for the war in Iraq right now.
