A wind chill warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 9 am CST Monday. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CST this evening. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 9 am Monday to 9 am CST Tuesday.
Bitterly cold Arctic air will continue to affect the region through Tuesday. Low temperatures tonight will drop as cold as 10 below to 15 below zero. Gusty northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph this evening will diminish to 10 to 15 mph by late evening. However... the combination of the wind and bitterly cold temperatures will produce dangerous wind chills of 25 below to 35 below tonight into early Monday morning.
Though wind chill readings will rise above 30 below zero a few hours after sunrise Monday... bitterly cold weather conditions will continue with wind chills remaining colder than 20 below. A Wind Chill Advisory will therefore remain in effect from 9 am Monday through 9 am Tuesday morning.
A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... dress in layers and cover all skin. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves. Limit outdoor activity to minimize exposure... as frostbite can occur in 30 minutes or less.
Check on elderly family members and neighbors. If you need assistance in the city of Chicago... call 3 1 1.
Brilliant sunshine....Temps going to mid fifties today here in South Korea. Unheard of..!
Thanks. Now I have that stuck in my head.
I washed my sweaters today and gave them a quick spin in the dryer for fluff but they were still damp and warm when I carried them back from the laundry room. It is 40 steps from the laundry room to the apartment. In that time the ones on top froze stiff.
I just came in from a walk around my 5 acres after taking care of my chickens. Temp -12 and it felt great. That was until I heard a pack of coyotes very close then I hastened back to the house. I have a fire going and am doing some studying - too busy to watch the game.
I love the cold too. A few years ago I decided to sort of embrace it and not shrink from it.
Have a great evening.
Global Warming is a biatch!!!
Indeed. LOL.
You'd think. Isn't that how it usually goes?
I expected this kind of weather when I moved to Pocatello. It's fine with me. The pleasant weather in San Diego ceased to overcome the traffic, taxes, illegals and an endless stream of leftist legislation coming from Sacramento. I look forward to winter. It means I can enjoy my weekends instead of spending half a day mowing lawns at my two houses every weekend.
They're already announcing school closings in northern Ohio. Our forcast is only -3 for a low. These kids are wimps! We used to walk to school barefoot in this weather, uphill. Uphill going home as well.
What's the big deal about -35 wind-chill in Chicago in February? During the winter of 1978 (or maybe 1979), I remember a wind-chill of -78 (actual temp was -26 and the wind was howling!). My brother in Phoenix called to brag that there was a 150 degree difference between their temperature and our wind-chill! That was a cold winter.
School closing for weather is extremely rare in Pocatello. I can only recall 2 days in the last 6 years.
BTW, you can end up walking home uphill, both ways if your home is on a mesa and the school is on an adjacent mesa with a canyon in between. That was the situation between my house and office in San Diego. A principal reason that I decided not to ride my bicycle to work. The other reason was dumbass drivers using the bike lane to pass other cars. It's just not worth getting killed.
I did ride my bike to work for 3 months when the trip to work was essentially downhill into the Sorrento Valley from Mira Mesa. I could coast to work without getting a sweaty. Riding home was uphill, but it was after sunset. Cool and pleasant.
I've got the chills just reading that LOL
We'll have -25F tonight in Fargo.
I was grilling chicken earlier tonight at -12F. Had to put on a sweater.
Jeez your right 1st week in Feb the Bears lost and it's colder then hell in Chicago.....whoda thunk?
An embarassing, weak performance from the Bears. They had no business at the Super Bowl.
