I'm posting this because I am pondering purchasing one of the platforms. Any thoughts on which one? I was thinking an XBOX 360 for me and a Wii for the kids later on. I was interested in the XBOX because I have a bunch of friends (well off, in their 40's with family for demo purposes...) who use the XBOX 360 on-line with Call Of Duty 3.

The day of the superbowl I sat down while one of them demoed the on-line capabilities. I've always been a PC guy but the HD graphics blew me away. Anyone else seen this stuff? It's impressive...

So yeah, I have a life, bust my tail working and when I'm not doing baseball, cubscouts, brownies, gynastics or rennovating another room, I screw around on the computer. : )

Today I finished installing a wood floor in my sons room and stained his new wooden doors and baseboard. Tomorrow I hang the door and install the BB. Ever try to type after doing something like that? Ouch...

Heck, I can't move after all that anyways...

Please share your thoughts on the console wars.

Right now the 360 easily.

More games, programmers (Third party) have a better grasp of the architecture, 360 has a better GPU and RAM setup.

PS3 is full of bottlenecks. Has RAM issues weaker GPU and as of now less games which is the most important aspect of picking a console.

All I can tell you is this: back when it was Xbox vs. PS2, I went back and forth like a game of pong (D'OH!). At the end of the day, I said the heck with it and picked up one of each.

I saw NBA Live 07 as a demo at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago using a flat panel display (HD) and I was amazed at how good that looked (and I hate basketball). Made me want to buy it right there, though. Of course the $899 price tag and the fact they didn't have any in stock was a blessing. I would have suffered a similar fate as that of John Wayne Bobbitt when I got home.

Good luck with your decision. :)

I'm building a home theater room right now, and have the same questions as I want to install a gaming system. I'm leaning towards the 360; the graphics seem better, and the games are more interesting.

The real selling point of the consoles is the video card aspect. All the games will be written for the consoles card capabilities. Unlike the PC game industry which seems to drive the VC industry. So basicaly you're investing in a video card platform.

Your observations are all spot on. Unless Sony can come up with a "Zelda" all they are is an expensive HD Blu ray Ps2.

Didn't read all the responses, but Mr. Cat is a PS fanatic. He's been waiting and waiting for the PS3...and ended up getting the XBOX 360, instead. We felt it was the better deal, and he's been very satisfied.

I don't have a preference, but if you go to the Beaches Resort at Turks and Caicos Islands, they have a game room where XBox features a lot its upcoming games. The game room is over by the Pirate ship area. I spent about 4 hours in there, one afternoon, just playing video games. Yes, all the games are free, just peel the anklebiters away from the game you want to play.

I'd pick a Wii #1, a 360 #2, a PC #3...

Sony's late to the game, too expensive, and is going to have a hard time gettng games onto the platform. Unfortunately, when it comes to these gaming system market penetration has as much to do with the "right choice" as technical quality.

I used to be a PC guy myself but found I couldn't play the newest games without upgrading my computer so I plonked down the money for the 360. Oblivion is a great game and so was Call of Duty 2, haven't tried three yet.

If you are gaming on-line with friends, I don't understand the dilemma. It should be about the games. The XBox has an HD DVD addon, so I don't see the PS3 having BlueRay being a big advantage.

My 12 year old son wanted a Wii in the worst way for Christmas. I knew there wasn't a chance we'd find one and I would NEVER pay more than retail on Ebay for one so he got $$ for it instead.

We were lucky enough to happen upon one in Target just 2 days after Christmas. I'm a mom, I don't do games but WOW this thing is a blast. We are all having so much fun with it, we can actually play things as a family.

It's just so innovative as far as video games go. They actually work up a sweat playing some of the games and we laugh and they are so interactive that it is well worth the $$ IMO. I see PS3's all the time in our stores now just sitting there unsold, I'm guessing that after the initial hype most figured they just weren't worth the hefty price tag.

If you go with Sony you are committed to building a BluRay video library which some consider a next generation Betamax, plus the player is integral to the PS3. The 360 however uses an external HD DVD drive format, if the drive has a problem you need not replace an expensive game console.
There is on the horizon dual capable HD players but honestly I would go with the HD DVD format. And just a bit of side info the porn industry has scorned the Bluray in favor of the HD DVD format, and that is a lot of influence believe it or not.
I agree that the better games like Halo, Gears of War and others are presently made for the 360. Sony has gotten a lame horse with the PS3 unless they can produce a lot of true next generation games.

I went out and bought a P/S2 cause they were cheap and I was interested in a couple of games they had which weren't on a PC format.None of the consoles can compare to Pc games, which can be patched and modified. You can even convert them using the same engine and now they have it where you can download the whole game without having to go to the store which I think is great.I downloaded F.E.A.R a couple of weeks ago and want to get the mission pack, which is another thing that's rare with a console.

The PS3 has a built in blu-ray player and Wi-Fi. The 360 has HD-DVD and wireless add-ons, but they bring the cost of the 360 up to the PS3. I bought the PS3 for the blu-ray since stand alone players were over $1000. I've only played one game on the PS3, and I've never played a 360 game, so I can't comment on game quality. I'm sure the 360 has far more good games out now, but I'm sure the PS3 will catch up in time.

We just got a Wii and it is fun!!!!! My kids really like the Wii, but it is a great family game. It's also not as expensive as the the PS3.

Here's a funny link to a video about the PS3 vs the Wii:

When the dual-core and quad-core processors start hitting the market, none of these consoles will survive. There are photo-real games coming out for the DC/QC platforms that no console can touch.

The PS3 has Resistance: Fall of Man, easily the best console FPS since Halo (and in many ways better). It takes Gears of War, which I found to be quite overrated, and blows it completely out of the water.

Even so, I could not recommend getting a PS3 over a 360 or Wii right now, because, well, the PS3 doesn't have too many (other) good titles yet and it is so expensive. Really, you are just investing in a console that will not really hit its full potential for another couple of years. If you want the most out of your money right now, get a Xbox 360.

Wii is fun for a while but the novelty is going to wear off soon, unless you have either kids or women who are going to play it. I tell you. The Wii is absolutely perfect getting girls to play video games, if you for some reason wanted to do that. A video game system where flailing your arms and frantically moving the controller around is actually a part of the game? Brilliant! ;D

You want the wii. Loads of fun. We have about 7 games for it and wii sports has everyone crazy especially tennis and bowling. We've played Madden football and it is a real charge to actually throw passes using the remote. I would suspect all the sports titles that will be made to take advantage of the wii motion controller are going to be fun, Can't wait for Major League Baseball and NHL Hockey.

Right choice: Xbox 360 graphically is similar (some would say SUPERIOR in may ways to PS3), PS3 is WAy Expensive $$$$, (I think HD DVD will win the format wars), and I don't like Sony (arrogant, bad culture, inferior tech/quality) IMO. Mind you I dont have either, but I agre with you Wii and 360 are the way to go.

I would go with the 360, actually I went with the 360. It has currently the most games, a great service called XBox live, however you get some filthy mouthed kids on there.

As far as HD-DVD goes, I got it but am regretting it. The movie selections are extremely limited, only one Studio supports it. Blu Ray has the widest selection. But the great thing about the 360 is that if in the future HD DVD fails MS can simply release a Blu Ray addon if they wished.
