Pretty sad that this happens so rarely that it surprises you.

Thank you for your service.

That is awesome. Although I was young, I remember what my brother, also a Marine, went through upon returning from Nam.

God bless you, thank you for your service and thank you for posting this.

You felt good, and so did she, perfect ending. I bought a phone card for a soldier at DIA awhile back, and I felt great. He seemed embarrassed, but I'm sure he recovered. I also told him to tell all his buddies that a lot of us support them all the way.

My boyfriend paid the tab of a uniformed soldier and his family once - and everyone acted so shocked. I thought it was the LEAST we could do. Americans should act more grateful. Good post.

Thanks for sharing that!

I love that plate. I wish we had that frame theme available here in California.

I still remember the time that a group of servicemen were leaving Atlanta as a group, and as they were passing through the big lobby of Hartsfield Airport on their way to Iraq, people from everywhere stopped what they were doing, stood up and started applauding. That still gives me goosebumps when I think about it!

My friend started attending this one church about a year ago. One of the things the minister advocated is doing something like you described. My friend went through a carwash about 4 weeks ago and she paid for the person behind her. She didn't stick around for a "thank you". She felt good just doing someone a good turn.

Thank you for sharing this story and thank you for your service. In an increasingly negative world, it's nice to hear good, positive story. I sometimes wish for something like a weekly "Good News" thread on Freerepublic where people can share the positive stories/news in their lives.

I have the exact same plates and had to exchange the "Honorably Discharged Veteran" plates to get them (a thoughtful gift from my wife - but I had to tell her, "Look honey, I'm not an honorably discharged veteran. I'm a former Marine.) ;-)

I have been buying drinks, breakfast and my favorite - shoe shines - for Vets for years. I love doing it. They are shocked and appreciative and others around seem challenged - positively about it.

Does CT have cool USMC plates like these? I've seen Veteran and Purple Heart CT plates, but I can't recall seeing any specifically for the USMC...

A quick story about being out at DIA recently. We were out to pick up my son coming in from a flight. As we were driving out I see a father and a son walking toward us. The son is decked out in full digitized cammies, jump boots, new jump wings and his maroon beret and 82nd Airborne patch on his sleeve. His dad is my age and hauling a duffel bag. I slowed, rolled down the window on my truck and looked the kid in the eye and said, "AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!" He replied with a hearty HOO YAH! I said, "Thank you for your service to our country!" and I drove off. I looked at the father and he had that gleam in his eye that was appreciative and yet with the foreboding that any father would have sending his new adult son off to protect this great nation.

I pray for that father and son as often as I can.

Semper Fi,

TS
