Giuliani criticizes Gore for not going far enough on Global Warming (by not offering solutions)
Pajamas Media ^ | February 13, 2007 | Bill Bradley

Pajamas Media’s Bill Bradley has been following Rudy Giuliani on the hustings in California. (Bill will be similarly covering John McCain and Hillary Clinton on their trips to the Golden State in coming weeks).

Here, at a press conference in the Silicon Valley, Giuliani responds to a press question about Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth and discusses the global warming issue in general.

"Nothing like Rudy trying to run to the left of Al Gore on this issue."

It's not my style to bash other Republican candidates. However, as a conservative, I found Giuliani's stances on global warming to be very disappointing; especially his willingness to single out "special interests" he believes "stop solutions" to global warming as expressed in his news conference.

Well, when the real solution involves cooling the sun down... how do these morons suggest we "fix" the non-problem...

Rudy has a good, common sense position. He said he's no scientist, that it isn't known how much og global warming is from natuer or us, that Gore's movie just frightened people without offering any solutions. Rudy also made the importnat connection that reducing pollution overall is a good thing and technology and innovation will help a lot. It was all common sense without alarmism. It also shows Rudy has an open mind on it and isn't going to follow any global warming dogma blindly.

Where is our Reagan?

Jesus, get over it already.

Reagan's buried. New day, new situations, new era. Adapt, adopt improve, change, acquire...whatever....but let's try the 21st century for a while.

Where is our Reagan?

"In this winter of their discontents, nostalgia for Ronald Reagan has become for many conservatives a substitute for thinking.  This mental paralysis - gratitude decaying into idolatry - is sterile:  Neither the man nor the moment will recur."

- George Will, from his column this past weekend.

Gulp. But we can always hope.

Rudy specifically does not blame global warming on only man-made pollution. In fact he goes out of his way to say that there are natural forces at work as well. What Rudy has done however is very clever and shows how good he is at politics. He's turned the question around to talk about pollution in a broad sense and to illustrate that loudmouths like Gore and the liberal fools have no answers to the problems of pollution. It is moments like this that show how Rudy is a calculating and clever politician who can turn a potential negative question into a very positive answer. It also illustrates to the American voter that conservatives truly do believe in conservation of the environment, we just do it by seeking solutions that are based on real science and not the fake politicized science.

"Rudy just gave validation to the liberal agenda to hamstring our economy by embracing the religion of human-caused global warming."

Listen to the video again. He didn't do that.

From another thread - transcription of the video on Pajamas Media:

Question: Do you believe there is a such thing as "global warming" and what about Governor Schwartzenegger's position - do you support him in the legislation (unintelligible)

Rudy: I do. I do believe there's global warming. Yes. And...and I...I think there are...I'm not a scientist all I can do is look at the reports. I think the last one said that...uh...ummm...fir-fir-first of all there's definitely global warming as far as I can tell. I guess the big question has always been how much is it, how much of it is happening because of just natural climate changes and progressions and how much is happening because of human intervention - carbon in particular - and the overwhelming majority of the scientists believe that there's significant human cause that's making it more difficult, making it worse.

So tell me - linking together the three bolded passages, just how do you make the claim that Rudy didn't say he believes that global warming is human-caused?

A question to my FReeper FRiends as I dislike downloading video's, therefore have not...Is Giuliani in essence stating to Gore (and the GW advocates in general) "Prove it?", or is he really saying we need seriously address the existance of GW?

I will have to be carried into the polling place kicking and shouting with barf bag in hand to vote for Rudy Giuliani if he actually becomes the only Red choice, but will do so if my vote will prevent Hillary from becoming POTUS.

If, in order to win in 2008, we have to run left of Gore, then I will write in Duke the dog from the bean commercials.

See post 29 and tell me that is not the logical conclusion to be drawn from what Rudy said.

I love the injection of "only" into your new defensive position.

Duke's a good liar and a sellout. He's a natural for this election.

I recommend one of those 40 gallon, 3 mil thick contractor bags. The standard airline airsickness bag ain't gonna be up to the task for that one.

"He believes in global warming. Deal with it."

And you don't? Look, global warming really does exist. Everyone (except you apparently) knows that it exists, but the primary cause is what the political issue revolves around. Rudy here says he respects science, but thinks that natural causes are also at work. He points out that there is a bigger issue and that is that all pollution needs to be controlled, and who can argue with that? Do you want to breathe polluted air and drink tainted water and eat pesticides? Ronald Reagan loved the environment and nature and so should you.

He's not. He's proving again that the Dems have no solutions (that they dare talk about)....same as with Iraq...all criticism....no plan.

Nice subject change. I believe we have had minor warming from natural causes.

Rudy here says he respects science

And then embraces the position of liberal agenda-driven scientists.

More telling is his complaint about Gore that no solutions are offered. If you feel that the subject is bogus, solutions are immaterial.

I think it's a dumb story. He's criticizing Gore for whining about problems yet offering no solutions. That's a legitimate criticism of the whole global-warming cult.

Do I believe in global warming? Of course. I also believe in global cooling. I also believe in climate change. In fact-- the one thing I'm pretty sure climate will never do is to stay the same. I'm unconvinced that man has had any major role in affecting change or that we could or should do anything about it.

I will stipulate that there are some valid points to criticize Rudy about. His stance on guns is especially one where I think he needs to expand and clarify his position.

But this is just petty ankle-biting.
