Welcome to Sanity Island, where only adults are allowed.

President Bush held a news conference this morning in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007.

The entire text of his remarks and the Q & A session, complete with a video link can be found here. I might add, the text is really worth reading in its entirety. I will post a couple of highlights, including the smackdown of one particularly obnoxious reporter.

After a luncheon with SoD Gates, President Bush greeted and met with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the Oval Office of the White House. The text of their remarks can be read here.

President George W. Bush greets Liberia's President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf during her visit Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, to the White House. President Bush applauded the leader's confidence and deep concern for the people of Liberia, saying, "I thank you very much for setting such a good example for not only the people of Liberia, but for the people around the world, that new democracies have got the capability of doing the hard work necessary to rout out corruption, to improve the lives of the citizens with infrastructure projects that matter." Quote of the Day

I've listened to a lot of voices; people in my administration heard a lot of voices. We weighed every option. I concluded that to step back from the fight in Baghdad would have disastrous consequences for people in America. That's the conclusion I came to. It's the conclusion members of my staff came to. It's the conclusion that a lot in the military came to.

And the reason why I say "disastrous consequences," the Iraqi government could collapse, chaos would spread, there would be a vacuum, into the vacuum would flow more extremists, more radicals, people who have stated intent to hurt our people. I believe that success in Baghdad will have success in helping us secure the homeland.

And it was a total accident -- I was away from the 'puter, wanted to check something else -- and there you were with Ze Dose, onyx!

Add to my shock the "hang time" I get when replying to posts, hitting POST and waiting and waiting till it "takes" on the forum ... heart attack material.

Thanks for today's edition, onyx.

Vice President Cheney was the guest speaker this morning at the National Association of Manufacturers breakfast in Washington, Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Thank you all very much. Thank you, John, and I appreciate the warm welcome and the chance to be here today with all of you. I especially want to welcome everybody from out of town. It's good to be here. The streets are kind of bad outside, but I guess you're all staying in the hotel, so that wasn't a worry for all of you. But the good news is, the federal government's shut down today. (Laughter.) So everybody's safe. (Laughter.) Just consider this your Valentine's Day present. (Laughter.)

The full text of his remarks and the Q & A exchange can be read HERE.
